My security light is on and my my 1997 chevy lumina won't start

My starter was going out on my car so I changed it out. I thought I could save a step by not disconnecting the battery so I arched the starter. I then disconnected the batter. After installing the starter the car ran fine but my security light came on. I didn't think much about it. About 2 days later my car would not start at all. Every thing seems to work fine it just won't start. And the security light is all steady. Is there anything I can do w/o taking it to the dealership.

I had a similar problem in my '97 Cutlass Supreme. The two vehicles have the same electrical makeup. My car would not start either and I had to take it to the dealer. $544 later, it ran fine. My problem was a shorted out ignition. You may have shorted yours out when you arched the starter. The only thing you can do is to disconnect the negative battery terminal and let the car sit for about an hour. The security light may go off then. I hope it does. If not, then to the dealer it is.

Where the starter relay at in 95'chevy lumina

There may be a problem with your antitheft security system. This will turn off the starter and make it appear to not be functioning properly. Look for a light that says SECURITY when you try to start your car. If you see that light, go to this link for help.

My 1997 Chevy Lumina will not turn on. I thought it was the starter since it started having difficulties turning on. The security light on the dash is permanently on. So i replaced the starter and tested...

REPLACE BATTERY CABLES THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE COULD BE SHORTING TO GROUND.REPLACE STARTER SOLENOID IF NOT BEEN REPLACED.BESURE TO PLACE BACK FLEXIBLE CONDUIT THAT GOES AROUND POSITIVE BATTERY KEEP FROM SHORTING TO GROUND. LAST TIME I SEEN BATTERY CABLES OVER HEAT WAS EITHER STARTER AND SOLENOID SHORTING OUT OR VERY LOOSE BATTERY CABLES CONNECTIONS. REPLACE BATTERY CABLES IF THEY ARE MELTED HAVE STARTER CHECKED OUT YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY STARTER STILL.

I changed engines from a 1996 chevy cavalier to a 1997 cavalier,i don't get any gas or fire won't start

These cars were made with an anti theft security system. If you swapped motors, you may have interupted that system causing the the security to turn off the ijector fuel. Just a thought.
