I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 HEMI/MDS engine.If I shut the engine down when hot and then restart within a short time the idle goes up and down by about 100 RPM.It settles itself out after about 5 or 6 repetitions.The air filter is clean and I am running good gas.I have yet to find a PCV valve despite looking everywhere.This may not be a huge issue mechanically but,it annoys me and it may be an indicator of future trouble.Any ideas? THANKS..

    Yes that's a possibility.I get conflicting info. in my Hayne's service manual as to PCV location.I don't know if the PCV is the problem or if there is one. Thanks for the input-all suggestions welcome.

    the pcv may be somewhere at rear of engine it will also have a hose connected and the other end is connected to inlet manifold your proble may be cracked/split in hose or valve may req cleaning ?

YOU COULD BE HAVING ENGINE MISFIRE.DUE TO BAD SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.ALSO DIRTY FUEL INJECTORS WILL CAUSE ENGINE TO ROUGH IDLE OR IDLE UP AND DOWN.PUT A BOTTLE OF FUEL INJECTOR CLEAN IN A FULL TANK OF GAS.ALSO CHANGE PLUGS AND WIRES.IF TRUCK HAS 30000 TO 60000 MILES ON IT.THATS THE SCHEDULE MAINTENCE INTERVALS IF SPARK PLUGS HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED.

    most of the time when you have engine misfire,either spark plugs at fault or fuel injectors clogged with carbon build up.but i am glad your vechicle is fixed.

Where are the spark plugs on a 2007 dodge ram with a 5.7 hemi engine?

    your sparkplugs are under the 8 rectangle coilpacks, and there is 16 spark plugs. also ur pcv valve in on the throttle body. passenger side of it just a black circular thing that you twist counterclockwise and pull up out of it. i just replaced mine yesterday.

I own a 2008 dodge ram with a hemi also, my trucks idle has been dipping down at a complete stop and then jumps back up I have replace plugs cleaned throttle body new egr valve needless to say still doing it does anyone know how to fix this problem?

MDS+ECO can not be actually disabled.
so if fails in 6 or 8 cylinder modes, it must be repaired.
the cure (MDS) can be costly, engine valve controls
best is scan the DLC port as you drive and learn what DTC error code pop at he failure.
no better way exists. (sure scan tools that log like mine does)

I have a code p3497 on 2006 dodge ram 1500 hemi truck
The P3497 code means that an MDS solenoid is sluggish to change from turning on or off. The MDS solenoid is one of the 4 solenoids used to switch the engine from 8 cylinders to 4 cylinders. One simple thing that can cause this is using the wrong viscosity engine oil, or low oil. Before doing anything, change the engine oil and filter and use ONLY 5w20 engine oil. Clear the code and drive the truck. If the code returns, then suspect a failing/sticking MDS solenoid and have it replaced. Good luck!

Check the security locks, if the truck still thinks its locked, it will let itself start and run momentarily then shut itself off, there's a way to reset it but I don't remember how right now

Check/clean the MAP sensor and throttle position sensor. This should fix the issue. Its a common problem with Chrysler products.

I had the same problem with my, 03, hemi. I did not wait 15 min. turn off and back on was all that was needed to reset, "red flashing light lower right hand ". though another 8 or 9 on off's, Engin Light also goes off, untill next time. All i did was pulled off my Air Intake box and hose, so i could get to butterfly on throttle bodie, sprayed carb cleaner in there. and it was very dirty. after put back togather, give it a few.... mine did not start right up, when it did idle real ruff even died few times...Once the computer re adjusted ran like it did when i bought it....that was 2 weeks ago, still no eng light, no flashing red ones either.

check the idle air and throttle for excessive carbon build up or sticking. this can be cleaned with some throttle body cleaner and a little time, most times. some more information would help. is the engine light on? any major service been done or even minor? number of miles? how long has this happened?
