What is an 02 sensor upstream 98 astro van

02 sensor is your oxygen sensor, 98 chevy astro carries 3 oxygen sensor. i belived your bad sensor is on the passenger side by the exhaust manifold but if not try the drivers side all the oxygen sensor for this van are the same. you need to go under the van to replace it, if is to hard to get it out turn your van for five minutes then turn it off and try again, be carefull not to burn your self. the one close to the catalytic converter is the downstream oxygen sensor ok, good luck!!!!!!

Chevy 1 ton van 5.7 v8

Both front oxygen sensors can fail at the same time

If you replace the front or upstream sensors at 100,000
miles, if they haven't failed sooner, your doing preventative
maintenance,so add that to the list

After that they slow down & you don't have the proper control
over the fuel trim & your vehicle is not as sharp in response to
your gas pedal request

The chugging is something you need to look into

The O2 Sensors are not causing that, you got things
that need attention,spark plugs,air filter,clean maf sensor
& check out ignition issues, worn out exhaust converter
causing a partially blocked exhaust system

2001 express p0420 p0174 engine codes , help diagnose !

0174 is system too lean, right bank. 0420 is catalyst sytem efficiency below threshold, left bank. fix would be either oxygen sensor or catalytic converter replacement possibly would need both. note: this veh would possibly have up to 4 oxygen sensors, but cause of problem would be the ones coming off manifolds before the catalytic converter possibly in manifold or y-pipe/down pipe.

Problem bad hesitation when cold

You should change all 4 O2 sensors, it will run better :)

Also check your compression. Not enough compression on any one cylinder will cause oil blow-by and cause it to fail emissions. Also, the EGR valve can cause the same symptoms.
