Hi, I have just replaced timing belt. When in idle, the engine seems to sputter but it does not get cut-off. When driving, its fine. I am not sure about the timing marks on the camshaft. I can see mark on the crankshaft and have aligned it properly. Both camshaft pully has I and E opposite each other and T and B marks on the sprocket. There is a punch mark near I as well. My question is, do I align both pully's I or E pointing to the mark on the cover or left pully's poiting to the mark and right pully's E pointing to the mark?
Hi..as you look at the engine, the left camshaft pully should have the I alligned at the top with the mark on the cover, as the camshaft pully to the right with the E should also be at the top aligned with the mark on the cover, and the crank should have its mark also at the top ( the cut out behind the pully ) should line up with the mark on the casing i have a diagram if you want it...hope this helps
Testimonial: "Excellent information."
hi yes being half a tooth out is vital to the running of the vehicle, and possibly could cause damage to the valves if set wrong, i will send you diagram so you can check it out, also as an after thought if it has been allot out, you may have caused damage allready, it may be a good idea to get the engine presure checked through the pots and see how that goes..ok now sending the diagram regards steve

Excellent thanks Steve. I would really appreciate if you could send me the diagram ([email protected]) just to make sure I am looking at the right marks. At the moment left cam is off by half a tooth (maybe bit less). Will this cause any issue or is it the course of the "sputter at idle" issue I am having? Thanks again for your advice.
