I have a 1999 Cadillac Deville and my engine fan quit working. How can I tell if it's a relay or my fans?

If you make a jumper wire and jump the load side of the relay and the fans work, it might be the relay or it might be the control side of the relay not getting the signal from the temperature switch. If you jump the load side and the fans don't work it's either the fan motors or a wiring issue between the relay and the fans.

The primary radiator fan does not come on.

Check Maxi fuse #3 60 amp in the under hood electrical center #1 .This is power for the #1 cooling fan . Also check the #1 fan control relay in the same under hood electrical center .
These vehicles use 2 360 mm (14.2 in) cooling fans to aid air flow through the radiator. Electric motors drive the cooling fans. These motors are attached to the radiator. Motor size varies with each engine option.
A coolant temperature switch activates the fan motors. This switch regulates voltage to the cooling fan relay. This switch operates the fan whenever the engine coolant temperature exceeds 110°C (230°F). For location and diagnosis, refer to Electrical Diagnosis. A transducer can also activate the circuit, depending on the A/C compressor head pressure going to the condenser.
The engine cooling fan relays provide the high current required for the cooling fan motors using a low current signal coming from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This signal is a function of various inputs.
Refer to Electrical Diagnosis for further information and diagnosis of the cooling fan relay.

Crownvictorias2006 overheating all the time

Do you think that it's overheating because the temperature light is on? If so, then it's possible that you have a bad temperature sensor and not an overheating engine.
Look for other signs of engine overheating :
1. Sluggish engine operation.
2. Detonation upon acceleration (pinging).
3. Rough, uneven engine idle.
4. Coolant boiling in overflow tank.
If your vehicle is experiencing these symptoms, then overheating is indicated. One of the most common cases of overheating is a bad thermostat. Another common problem is a faulty cooling fan or fan circuit. The cooling fan can be checked by running the engine at operating temperature and turning on the AC control. if the fan does not come on, then a problem with the fan circuit is indicated. The thermostat can be checked by placing a cooking thermometer on the motor near the upper radiator hose where it attaches to the motor. the temperature should not go above 225deg. If it does, then replace the thermostat. If the temperature stays at or below this rating, then replace the temperature sensor. I hope that this information helps you with your problem and thank you for using Fixya.com.

WARNING : Be very careful when working around cooling systems when the engine is at operating temperature. DO NOT open the radiator cap (if equipped) or even the overflow tank cap when the system is hot. Always wear safety glasses. Remember that electric cooling fans can operate at any time, even after the engine is off. Keep hands away from fan when working in the engine compartment.

I have a Prelude '97. It overheats. I replaced the readiator, water pump, and one of the fans, but it still overheats when going uphill or when in slow traffic. I've noticed that the fan that is...

will try to help. the fan you replaced, was it the air conditioner fan? if so. then you need to check your primary fan. the one that does come on when the engine reaches operating temperature. make sure by starting engine, let the motor run and the temperature guage reaches the normal operating temperature.if the main engine cooling fan does'nt come on, then you'll need to check the fuse box under the hood. relays are black square plug in's they are marked and will[fan relays] tick when you turn the key on] if main engine fan does not come on when engine overheats, #1 fuse blown #2 relay bad #3 main cooling engine fan bad. note; the air conditioning fan will come on with engine running, when air conditioniing is turned on. when the a/c is turned off, the a/c fan will not be turning. hope this helps and as always, thank you for choosing fixya.com

My cooling fan does not come on when car is started.both the ac and cooling fan comes on when ac is started

The cooling fan is required to operate when the engine temperature rises above the maximum operating temperature threshold.
After the car is started, it will usually take some time for this temperature to be reached.
Ensure fan runs when fan control temperature sensor switch demands.

Radiator cooling fan not turning on

I would follow the wiring from the fan to the engine. There should be a temperature switch that controls an electrical circuit based on engine metal and coolant temperature. It controls the cooling fan, temp light or guage, fuel mixture, emission controls, and ECU functions. It is usually brass or stainless steel and is threaded to go into the engine block.

Cooling fans dont operate when engine is on

faulty temperature sensor. It's near where the thermostat lives in the motor. In an emergency you can wire the + side of the fan to the accessory panel, just know that the fan will run the entire time the car is on.

Check the engine temperature sensor, and the cooling fan switch, they both control the fan operation. One or both are not working.
