Actual changing the gasket is not a hard job. I strongly suggest you go to a parts store and buy a haynes or chiltons manual for your specific truck. these manuals will have step by step instructions for many different repairs for your vehicle

I have a 1997 gmc sierra 5.7 vortec, just changed plugs and wires, now it hiccups at idle, And excessive white smoke and gas smellout the exhaust any ideas?

If you have white smoke out the tail pipe you have a problem with antifreeze entering the fuel system and burning with the fuel .
You see the white smoke isn't smoke its steam from the water in the antifreeze .
Witch leaves with 1 of 2 problems head gasket or intake manifold gasket .
Being that its a chevy engine I would say its the intake manifold they have had a problem with this disgin for over 30 years not enough bolts to much glue .
Over heat this engine once the glue melts and it starts leaking because of the pressure .
The bigger problem you have is if you run this engine the antifreeze will get behind the pistion rings any wreck the engine in under a month.
So do something quickly if you want to save it
Good luck

Leaking antifreeze, have been told it could be head gaskets.

Hello roxanna surf: My name is Roger and I will help you. The problem could be one of several problems. GM has a problem with the intake manifold gaskets leaking coolant useually external but can leak internal also. Check at the corners of the intake manifold where the manifold meets the heads. If you see green or orange drops of coolant or a slimmy build up than the intake manifold gasket is leaking. Idf the leak has been ongoing for some time and the engine has overheatedI would also look at a head gasket, warpped head or even a cracked head as a source of the problem. The engine does not like extreme heat and can have serious issues. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Manifold water leak on 2002 blazer how do you get to it

This happens a lot with chevy engines 305 s 4.3 s its means the intake manifold gasket is leaking because the engine over heated at some point . Cheak your dip stick if you see a white fomey residue on the stick then look inside the radiator cap if you see oil floating on the top of the antifreeze it means oil and antifreeze are mixing this will kill the engine real fast so stop drivering it and have the intake manifold gasket replaced . ALso check for any other sorce of the antifreeze like a radiator hose or a gasket on the goose neck hopfuly you will find something else that easyer to fix but its a disgin problem with chevy they don't have enough bolts holding the manifold down theres 8 and there in the corners 2 in each well good luck with it

I have a 1997 Chevy Blazer that is overheating and is leaking coolant. It is not the rad hose because I have already checked that. It is a part that is attached to the engine block, directly above the...

Ihave a 96 s10 lt blazer First of all the steering coloum is now where near the engine block and the bracket you mention is for the throttle cable and the cruise control cable and has no gasket for any kind of a seal with the intake manifold. The 4.3 and most chevy engines have a problem with the intake manifold gaskets if you are over heating then likely the intake manifold gasket is leaking you should check your engine oil for antifreeze that will look like a fomey white yellowey residue and also check the radiator for engine oil floating on the top under the radiator cap. This is a big problem with chevy you can't let espesecly the 4.3 ever over heat. There is olny 8 bolts that hold the manifold to the block and there all in the four corners nun in the middle Y ou can save the engine if you fix it now but it is the intake manifold gasket that is leaking

What would cause oil in coolant and leak near intake manifold?

Head gasket, if you have a V6 or a V8, can't tell which one is at fault, so both will might as well be changed.
If the leak near the maifold is oil, the valve cover gaskets are leaking.
When head gaskets are changed, all the necessary gaskets come in the gasket kit.

I have replaced all 4 ox senors before I replaced intake man. gaskets. It is a 97 chevy W/Truck with a V6 auto, auto trans. 2WD. now service engine soon light came on after about 200 miles, it will go off...

First did you clear all the fault codes after your repairs? The reason I ask is po131 is bank one oxygen sensor, po174 is engine lean from faulty oxygen sensor, and po171 is engine lean condition, possibly from vacuum leak (intake manifold gasket?), pcv valve, etc. To check for vacuum leak at intake, start engine and gently spray starting fluid around intake gasket. If rpm raise slightly while doing this then there is a vacuum leak(stay away from air filter intake and housing though), and the gasket will need to be replaced again.

My 1999 chevy tahoe is leaking antifreeze. I

it could but- check passenger side front where heater core line go into manifold right behind alternator the hose line is connected by a press clip into an alloy fitting this fitting gets eaten away by anti freeze and hose angle pulls back on fitting the part is $18 at dealer and is screwed into manifold use caution if ur r going to replace at very edge of aluminum manifold---and check ur water pump bolts the 2 longer ones should have a lock sealant on them they bolt in thru a water jacket

Leaking antifreeze and I dont know where from, I add 4 liters on a 10 mile trip

If this is a V6 they have bad intake manifold gaskets that will leak antifreeze. 4 liters in 10 miles is quite a bit though, you don't see any fluid leaking anywhere? Look very closely under the throttle body where the intake mates with the heads and block for signs of wetness. I hope this helps.

2000 chevy impala ls - oil spray under hood inline with serpentine belt

You may have a lower intake manifold gasket leak (or a head gasket leak-slightly less probable) the lower intake can leak onto the serpentine belt and fling oil (and/or antifreeze). The lower intake manifold gasket is usually the culprit here. There is much information about changing it if you are inclined to do it yourself. If not, expect around 800 to 1200 to fix at dealer/mechanic. This is usually accompanied by (but not always) oil in the antifreeze, or antifreeze in the oil...
