Go to www.bbbind.com for free wiring diagrams . Click on technical information , then click on TSB'S an wiring diagrams , next page click on I agree at bottom of the page. Next click on wiring diagrams an the enter your vehicle info. Then under system click on power distribution , subsystem fuse panel . This will show what you need .

It sounds like you fried several main wires in the harness.
The excessive voltage may have cooked the gauge cluster and fed back thru the headlight switch. The warning light on the dash provides the circuit to "turn on" the alternator when the engine starts.

remove the positive battery connection and check continuity from the cable terminal to the output on the alternator. you can go to autozone.com to view wiring diagrams. register and enter your car. then select repair guides. also, has the battery been tested and found good?
