no idea to be honest earlier jeeps had then at the front of the wing down below as i remember ?? newer one would i imagine be in the electrical box under the bonnet near the battery

engine swaps are complex as is mixing engines to wrong transmissions.
so both are 3.7L, is that it?

the flex plate to TC
or TC to A/T pump side mismatch.

if its the flex then get the correct flex plate.
or call jeep parts? ask them for the right parts
the side of the trans has the trans part number
my guess is all you need is the correct flex plate for engine to TC.

Obstructed radiator or plugged radiator, I didn't think that the Liberty had a fan clutch, I thought that it used an electric fan.

In the case of an electric fan there are relays and sensors involved plus the ECM (computer) is also in the mix to make that fan work.

I would suggest having the cooling fan diagnosed before doing anything else.

It is normal for the cooling fan to cycle more often when the A/C is on than when it is not. It adds a significant load to the engine which raises the engine temperature more quickly.

after overheating, you should immediately replace your head gasket. most of the time, your cylinder head must be shaved (the bottom part will be sanded to make sure there is a proper fit against the engine block.)

Thermostat got stuck. Replace it. I am surprised a shop couldn't tell that.

The easiest way is to usually just remove the lower radiator hose. All of the coolant will come out in a couple of minutes so you will need to have a big bucket. Around 3-4 gallons will come out. It sounds like the shop used too much water in the coolant mix. It is supposed to be 50/50 or better(better being more than 50% straight coolant) and water. If you drain what they put in there and refill with straight coolant ( not the premix from the store but rather the non-mixed stuff) you probably wont even have to go back to the mechanic.
Your coolant sounds like it is boiling which can be very bad for the engine. Once you remove the lower radiator hose, just reconnect it and fill it back up. It will be the largest hose going into the radiator at the bottom of the radiator. There may be a bleed screw on the top of the thermostat housing. If so open it with the car running till coolant bleeds out in a steady stream then close it and your done.

belt not tight enough and slipping?

didnt specify what fluids engine oil and filter 5 qts-- cooling system aprox18 qts-- trans holds 10-11 qts overall--change filter 5 qts-- gas tank unknown can be 27 or 30 gal rear check level same with windshield fluid,brake,
