While starting my car when i turn keyswitch off it still keeps cranking engine it is a 1986 ford leisure craft motorhome with a 460 engine

I remember seeing this post! I think I may have answered it but not sure. It may be a glitch, we do get posts vanish. The reason I remember is because I have been helping a guy called Ed Z with his E350 motorhome. Tag yourself on his post and introduce yourself. He is very capable at fixing his engine.

First off let me explain the way the pump operates, the only time the pump gets power is when the engine is being cranked over to start it or when the engine is running of course. If you want the pump to run just with the key on remove the relay and install a jumper so the pump is always powered.

did it flip a breaker in the motorhome where you plug in ?

Assuming its not a shifting problem with your trans: Have you chkd your fuel filter? Also what is it doing while your trying to gain speed?

pull of dist. cap and see if rotor turns while someone cranks it for you. just had that problem and it was a timing chain. are you getting fuel?

Plug the computer on to the port located under the dash on the drivers side to get a code reading. It sounds like a 02 sensor about to go bad. If you get a 700 area code, its a transmission sensor code.

Check the choke in the carb, might stay stuck in the open position when engine cools down. After the engine is cold, check and see if the choke is closed, if not close it by hand, and see if that works.

If the battery is ok - the starter might need some shimms..
Easy enough.. Pop off the starter - put a few shimms in whre it bolts on..

I had same problem in varius trucks and motorhomes with the same engine size (460)and this is caused by excesive heat from the engine in all 460's,when hot if I stoped at a gas station to fill,once I tryed to start it again it felt like the battery was almost dead and bearly turned the engine over.what I did was that I added an after market engine oil cooler and that fixed the problem.
