Most oil pressure switches/sending units were located are near the oil filter. Did you have the same symptoms before you changed the oil pump? How many miles on your engine? As the bearings (main, rod, camshaft, etc) wear, the gap where oil flows through gets larger, and oil pressure will decrease. If a direct reading gauge shows very low oil pressure at idle, it's time to rebuild or replace the engine.
Check oil level if ok check oil sending unit. It should be close to oil filter they are inexpensive to replace. if lite continues to flash you have low oil pressure.and will probably need a new oil pump or main and or rod bearings this usually happens arround 150,000 miles and up if this is helpful please leave me good feedback
When you had the pump replaced did anyone look at the rod and main bearings? 99% of all low oil pressure problems I've seen has been directly related to bearing wear, not a bad oil pump. Replacing the pump will give you slightly better pressure temporarily but that won't last very long. Verify the actual oil pressure using an external mechanical gauge. If it's low (likely it is) go back into the oil pan and use plasti-gage on the bearings to measure clearances. In reality though, in an engine with that many miles, it's best to either completely rebuild or replace it though.
Set your timing when u remove the oil pump it will surley affect the timing on your motor.... do this with a timing light and and adjust timing by rotating the distrubutor.
to determine why your vehcle is showing low oil pressure,u need to first make sure oil filter is clean and not clogged
use correct viscocity oil
test oil pressure sending unit
test oil prssure gauge in dash
if all this checks out, then the oil pump needs replacing
Worn oil pump or cam brgs. Noticed the oil change, what about the oil filter? The oil filter has a bypass in it that will allow unfiltered oil to get past the oil filter if it plugs up. What is your mileage now and how was your maintenance habits? Good Luck. Remember, your cam brgs are the first point of resistance that control your oil pressure, not your rods or mains
Your problem unfortunately is bearing related. When any oil is cold (regardless of rating) it is heavier than hot. Therefore, cold, with marginal engine crankshaft bearings, you have less bleed off around the bearing faces. Once warmed up, the oil is thinner and prone to more bleed off, lowering pressure. Once pressure is low enough you will begin to hear lifter noise, later, bearing knock. If in the early stages of failure, replacing engine bearings is an option provided that only rod bearings are worn (can be generally done in car. If mains are involved, engine needs to be removed. Oil pump should be replaced during this repair...changing oil pump without repairing the bearings will not fix the problem.
