Oil light came on when idling; oil changed; still happening occasionally. If I put it in park or neutral and rev it - the oil light goes out. Could it be the oil sending/pressure unit? Is there an easy way to determine if it's the oil pump? it's a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan, 3.8 V6, 119K miles.

There may be an issue with your oil pressure sensor.
You also probably have a faulty water pump that is functioning under revs but not at idle, what happens if you rev it mildly at idle

My 2006 Liberty has a similar issue. The oil light beeps and then the engine shuts off. I put the car in park and it restarts and the oil light goes off. I had the oil, filter, and lines checked and everything checked out. The mechanic thinks it may be the oil sensor going out and that for safety reasons the engine shuts down when the oil light comes on.

Change the oil, and replace the oil pressure sender. And check back on your findings.

It sounds like you have a iol sludge problem. Take it to the dealer and they should repair it for free if you have oil change reciepts and it has less than 100,000 miles.

1st to do,check transmission oil level

Could be that your Oil pump is getting clogged or may not be fuctioning properly. Isnt getting enough power while at a low idle because its clogged.... When your stopped or in your driveway with the light on put your car in neutral and set the parking break and rev the motor up to 2200 RPM's and see if the light turns off.. If i does then that is most likely your problem.
