If the car is parked facing down a hill and you must shift into reverse, it will not stay in reverse and sometimes won't go into reverse at all. What kind of tranny fluid does ford recommend?

Does the shifter move or are you holding the car by the parking pawl in the trans. You should be using the parking brake on a hill. Is the trans low on fluid, because it is leaking or you just do no know? Mercon V on the fluid.

The gear shift is locked in place and will not shift into reverse. The vehicle has a shift release button on the console to the right of the shifter. When depressed the button unlocks the shifter and the...

It has a brake-transaxle shift interlock. You should just push the brake in to shift, but if you have done that, and it still won't shift, with foot on the brake, push the shifter all the way into park. Sometimes they don't always go into park all the way. Also if you park on a hill, it puts pressure on the btsi, so you cant shift it. Have someone push the vehicle back, just enough to take the pressure off and it should shift. I had this happen to me with my Grand Am.

Will not go into drive cannot get gear shift to move

Is your car Parked on a hill. Do you use the E-brake.
1st. Make sure you, press the bake peddle.
2nd.If the car is parked on a little hill facing up or down
you'll need to move the car a little. Up or down.
3rd. When the car is parked not level the transmission
parking PAW or PARKING lock inside the Transmission
may have to mush pressure on on it to move easily
So, that is probably the problem. Move the car eighter way
to relieve the presser off the parking Paw. When parking the car
when stoped, Leave your foot presure on the brake pedal.
set the E- Brake then put, the trans into PARK.This way
The presure, in the trans parking lock is not to tight.

Shift gear is locked I removed the cup holder and pushed in the lever and it still wont go into gear

If your parked on a hill you may have torque lock,if facing down hill you need to push car up hill to release shifter, if facing up hill you need to push car up hill to release shifter. To stop this from happening again apply park brake before putting into park.

Wont move out of park

Your brake switch may have gone out. The way to test this is to apply the brakes and see if your brake lights are working. If so, then your transmission has gotten stuck and you need to either push the vehicle forward if facing up hill or backward if facing down hill. This will release the transmission and allow you to shift.

Bad odor coming from the AC

I have had a similar problem with another brand car (Honda) and found that it was because I always parked the car overnight facing UP HILL. Reversing the car into my driveway so it faced down hill solved the problem. The cause may have been to do with condensation retained in the unit when facing up hill. Good luck!
