The airflow selector on my 2001 Toyota Echo became difficult to turn, so unfortunately, I forced it and something snapped. I believe the arm that moves the paddle broke. How can the entire airflow selector mechanism be replaced? How difficult a job is it and approximately how much would it cost to have it done? Thank you, Frank

On that van, like many other GM front-wheel-drive vehicles, the shift cable goes through a bracket on the transmission to the linkage( the little metal arm). Where the cable connects to the linkage, there is a ball stud. It takes quite a bit of force to disconnect the cable from that. If it became disconnected at that ball without any other outside influence, the shift cable may need to be replaced. You can try pushing the plastic end of the shift cable back on to that ball stud ,it should click into place.
If the ball stud became disconnected from the linkage(little metal arm), the linkage would need to be replaced.
There should be a locknut holding the linkage to the transmission stud right above the range selector switch. If it came loose of there, you may need a new linkage, and to replace that nut
The resistor pack is almost always close to the blower. It needs air moving across it to keep it cool. It is usually installed into the duct with two small screws. It has a connector with about 5 -6 wires, and is about 3/4 inch wide, and about 3-4 inches long. Some can be a little difficult to get out due to clearance, and their shape.
Also, it could be the fan speed switch that's giving you problems.
Brother Mark, I know just what you mean. What happened is that the wire on the end of the cable has pulled out of the hole on the lever at the control because the cable has dried inside the housing and needs lubrication. Near impossible to do without taking it out, then mas as well replace the cable. Most likely the lever on the control valve that shuts the water line off at the firewall has stiffened up and caused you to force it and pulled the cable out at the valve in front of you on the firewall under hood. I don't know pricing on this stuff because I always do my own work. I build my vehicles, not buy them. Either way, it's the water control valve and cable that need attention. I just open the valve with pliers under the hood for winter if I don't feel like changing it right away. the other stuff on the control panel works fine.
Get under your car, remove the right hand side under engine covers. the starter is held in by two bolts. i believe they are either 12mm or 14mm. remove thoses and take the starter out. should be simple Take care
there is a bolt attached to the idler arm, if you get the right size socket and a good wrench, you have to pull the idler arm. it will pull the entire tensioner and the belt will be loose
Hi banksiah,
Turn the radio off. Press 4 and while holding it press seek up. The clock will reset to 1:00. To adjust the hour press and hold AM and then 1. To adjust the minute press and hold AM and then 2. Turn the radio on when finished.
I hope this helps
EPA mileage figures are estimates, and seldom does it have anything to do with the real world, My new car is rated at 19 city and 28 hiway, it gets 22 MPG max. The only thing you can do is make sure the pressure in the tires is correct and run the recommened oil, keep the car in good running order.
