Why do the doors keep locking themselves on my 02 suzuki grand vitara?

faulty ground

if the unit re-inits power it locks the door

you could also have a faulty battery that voltage has a low 11 or 10,5 v

so will start up and run just one cell has died

if this isnt the case then its some sort of ground leakage of the supply to the alarm triggered central clocking relay feed {from alarm to doors ..
i suspect a ground with rust

2004 Grand Vitara. Warming the car this morning, locked it.Came back with remote and a key and the doors would not unlock.Engine was running with the other key in it. Had to have a locksmith break in. Why...

don't have 2 fobs?
it cam with 2,
and the battery must be good.(for buttons to work on fob)
never run any car with only 1 fob or one key.
or get locked out.
are you saying the metal cut key end (pure mechanical ) failed?

my car has a real key with a a transponder inside .
it can open 2 ways, the keyfob buttons, (takes a good battery)
and the key metal end.

get a spare fob and program it.

My suzuki grand vitara has keyless start/entry but I have never been able to lock the doors with the starter token in the car when it is not running is this a safety/security feature?

most newer vehicles will not lock the door with the keys in the ignition and/or the keyless start remote fob in the vehicle. Vitara has a small button on the handle that will unlock the door if you have the fob in your pocket if the fob is in the car it can"t be secured since it is set up to unlock when the fob is within a couple feet of the vehicle. I know this is a late post for your question maybe it will help others

Is it possible to program a new keyless entry fob for a 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara?

try this...

1. Make sure vehicle is in Park
2. Press Vehicle Information button (has the icon of a car and an 'i')until 'PRESS *check mark* TO RELEARN REMOTE KEY' displays.
3. Press set/reset button. The message 'REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE' will display.
4. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the transmitter at the same time for about 15 seconds. A beep will sound indicating that the transmitter is matched.
5. To match additional transmitters at this time, repeat Step 3. Each vehicle can have a maximum of four transmitters matched to it.
6. To exit the program mode, you must cycle the key to LOCK.

If that doesnt work, go to: http://www.bing.com/search?q=how+to+program+a+keyless+entry+fob+for+a+2002+Suzuki+Grand+Vitara&go=&form=QBLH&qs=n&sk=

the users guide answers that, in the glove box
you never said who does this?
  • you (DIY)?

learn that many cars USA this is covered in the manual
but DIY takes 2 good keys to make a 3 or more.
but in CANada THIS IS NOT ALLOWED THERE BY LAW.

SEE HOW NOT SAYING DIY AND THE COUNTRY, MEANS THERE REALLY IS NO ANSWER.?

also chapter 8 in he paid for service manual covers IMMO fully
if IMMO is the problem not told.

do no buy keys outside you country.
they do not work in your country, even the MHz freq, of the transponder to IMMO is not the same.
next time post a real problem
first;
I cant;' do this or that, and get 10x faster help
or OMG tell the country first

each country has their OWN law regulating, IMMO ignitions.
