1991 toyota camry 4 cyl. how to change fuel pump.

i owned the 1995 4 cyl wide body camry till the cooling system failed in heavy traffic and over heat stripped out the head bolt threads in the block

the toyota camry engine designation is a 5S-FE

water pump is driven by timing belt
behind timing belt covers
they have to be removed to get to the water pump

normally timing belt, seals ,tension er pully and water pump are replaced at the same time ..comes in a kit

i dont have the 5S-FE cooling system hot under pressure specs

so I cant answer which inline electric pump pressure is required to work on the 5S-FE

Bad fuel, fuel filter, low fuel pressure(fuel pump).

The most likely causes are a vacuum leak somewhere in the intake, or insufficient fuel pressure.


Check the large flexible connection from the air cleaner for cracks, then inspect all the hose connections in this list, p22

Check the fuel pressure as on p 177. Take care with fuel vapour and liquid, have an extinguisher and fire blanket handy.


If the fuel pressure is low, it may be due to a failing pump, blocked filter, or failed fuel pressure regulator.

Yes . Remove fuel tank and access is through fuel sending unit at top.

Toyota doesn't use a fuel pump reset, that is only in Ford cars, if you have no fuel pressure the fuel pump has likely failed, the pump is electric and it is located inside the fuel tank

First thing I would check would be the fuel pump pressure,then go from there,but sounds like the fuel pump.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and it can be reached by removing the back seat of the car.

be sure to get a fuel pump of the same rating with the one you are replacing.
