Hi everyone, this is my problem! this 2002 volkswagen jetta(2 litere) was running just find until it ran hot and i took it to the shop at 52.00 an hour I might add.after replacing the water pump and termest stat i started the car and it sounded alful, like it was missing a beat.this mechinic wanted me to drive away like this.i read on line before i but it in the shop about if you replace waterpump be careful not to knock of timing.i told him this so he put it back in shop to check.indeed this was the problem.it ran find at the shop. my problem is when i drove it home(45 minutes later)I stop the car with the motor still running.the rpms went to 2000,and after about 2 minutes it went back down to 100 rpms.the tempure hand was only at 10 degrees, than it shot up to 90 degrees in one second.when i drive it now the temp hand is all over the place, but it never goes past 90 c. this car was fine before i put it in shop so can anyone help me please.
Sounds like the air in the cooling system was not all bled out , it should correct itself after a few drive cycles, if not then there is more than likely a problem with the thermostat sticking in the closed position.if there is not sufficient coolant inside the cylinder head then the tempature at the thermostat will not be enough to open it therefore the cycle of the coolant will cease causing an overheat and possible engine damage.
