My truck starts normal. the speedotemeter does not work. but when I hit the brakes the speedometer jumps to around 40 mph and the ABS and Brake light comes on
Re: My truck starts normal. the speedotemeter does
Well it seems like there is a wire under your steer column that is rubbed through and being touched when you hit the brakes, or with the slowing down of gravity a wire is bare wire is moving forward and hitting ground.

There is no odometer fuse . Does the speedometer work ?
If speedometer works , you need a new instrument cluster .
Pinpoint Test E: The Speedometer/Odometer Is Inoperative
Normal Operation
Vehicle speed information is sent to the instrument cluster from the anti-lock brake system (ABS) module over the communication network.
look under the truck at the ****** and check the wiring to the sensors if good may be a bad sensor, also check the wiring and connections to the abs wheel sensors [ located from frame to the hub behind the rotors ] the abs also acts as speed sensor if problem was with an abs sensor at the[ hub] wheel usually set the brake system to normal power brakes [if u hit brakes hard will lock up or skid wheels] with the abs light coming on if the speed sensor at ****** malfunction can and usually causes shift problems
not a good idea to do a voltage test on a computer component, it can result in damage to the ECM. if only the speedometer is not working and the other gauges do work, the first place to start is the speed sensor, it is the most common issues with inoperative speedometers.
If everything else works ok, the vehicle drives normally, and all the other gauges are working then you may have a bad speedometer servo motor. This servo is what actually moves the speedometer needle to match the speed you are driving at. The cluster would need to come out and be repaired to fix this problem if this is the case.
on my 94 i didnt have codes either, but the electric motor failed on the abs due to moisture.the speedometer on mine jumps too,but mine with 220,000 miles it was the gauge cluster, couldnt tell if i was driving 5 miles per hour too slow or too fast.the cruise may be the clock spring behind the steering wheel, but most of the time the horn wouldnt work or the air bag light would be on and beeping
You must have ripped the wires off underneath your truck, and you probably don't have brake lights anymore either. Better get somebody to repair it as soon as you can.
I had the same problem with ABS light and speedometer, I was told that it is the transmission control module. It has not yet stopped shifting but I have had times where it just wont stay running. It will start and then stall. Hope this helps.
you need to take down the dash, and your gonna have to take it out and do some soldering change a few resisters stuff like that circuits may even be oxidated
it sounds like it is the speedometer cable that goes from the speedometer gauge to the transmission is wearing out.unless you have done one of these before then i would suggest having someone do it for you.
