Cant open the back hatch on my v70 estate,,how do i get it open ?

Been having trouble for weeks now, but you had to push in on hatch as well as pulling up on the door lever to get access,,the lock was just opening,,now its tight shut,,how do i get in to the hatch to fix the problem,,also how do i fix the problem??rgds comcat

happened to me,,you must loosen the screws holding on the back door cover,,make a hook from a good coat hanger and slip it down to the lock if you cant fully remove the cover,,,there is a latch which secures the hatch,,,you must pull on that and the door opens,,,you may even have to put your hand down to do this,,,the solonoid which opens the lock sometimes become slack on the face of the door where it is attached,,,you could try to push ******* the door from the out side at the same time pull on the door release to open it,,that sometimes works,,,but to get a better idea what to release,,look on the exploded diagram of the lock set up to achieve this,,,once in,,,remove the cover fully and drill a hole through top of cover and fix a wire to the lock trigger and attach a ring so that you can open the lock from the inside tempararily,,,then buy another part,,,the problem is that the nylon lock moves and cant be activated,,also difficult sometimes to cure the problem unless you buy another actuator,,,,trial and error,,,if this cant be done,,then,,,remove the cables from the lock and just have the door unlocked,,,best i can think of,,,,sorry if this does not seem a perfect answer,,,rgds les

Seen dozens of answers, but none address my problem. Actuator opens and locks fine, but the level which the rod s from the handles push on is broken, and I cant see any other way to release the lock and I cant get the tailgate open. I was hoping maybe there was a way to release the locking post from inside the boot, but I cant see anything. I need the boot accessibe for a show I;m doing this weekend, otherwise I will be loading from inside the back doors and knocking lumps out the seats etc. HELP!!! :O

Go into the back of the car to the tailgate. You will have to pull the inside cover off and inspect the rods that control the latches and the latch itself. Also lubricate everything with Slick 50 One Lube and reassemble after testing.

SOURCE: 2005 V70 Estate Wiper motor access

It's actually not that hard, just be carefull not to crack the windshield.

Remove the wiper arms 13mm nuts and the four to five plastic rivets in the black cowl. using a small punch push the center of the rivets all the way through and pull of the larger outside ring. Last but not least there are two push pins on the far left and right sides of the black cowl cover. Pull up on the pin and it will come loose. Well if you can understand what I've written.....

Now lift up on the front (side towards the engine) and pull it to the front of the car.

I hope this helps...

SOURCE: Volvo v70 1999 tailgate won't open

I had the same problem on my '98 V70 - my rear liftgate would not open. The "rear lift door open light" was on. I guess it was some kind of electronic problem in the locking mechanism. But it could have been something else like the metal bar that extends from the outside handle down to the mechanism had slipped off (unusual design seems like it should be connected instead of just sitting on a plastic latch handle) or maybe it was bent because this car had been hit in the rear as I found out looking around in there. Anyway, I took off the interior panel and inside handle. There was a large torx bolt that had to be removed if I was going to replace the mechanism. I later found out that there were two more once I got the gate open. I took a photo of the way everything was connected so I would have a record just in case I needed it. I bought a new lock mechanism. There is a thin piece of plastic down near the bottom on the mechanism that somewhat blocks a screwdriver or other tool from reaching in and opening the door that way. So I had to start removing things. I disconnected the power first. I removed the two screws I could reach which let the part that was connected to the connector be removed out of the way. I removed the metal bars that went from the outside door handle and the lock down to the mechanism. I still couldn't reach where I needed to. So since I had the part I began to slowly break away pieces from the mechanism. They are plastic so they broke off without much trouble but it did take a little work. Finally I reached down to the thin plastic part I referred to earlier that covers the part that unlocks your liftgate and pulled it enough off of it to get access to the release. One last try with a screwdriver let me push the actual release and the door opened! There was much rejoicing. Then I removed the old and replaced with the new. Reconnected everything checked and rechecked. It's working so far. That's how I did it.

SOURCE: volvo door locked but open so wont shut

ok ,try this, first unlock the door with the poweer locks then get a screw driver, what u do is where the pin in the door jamb would hit the door latch on the door put the screw driver between the two claw like parts that move inward on the latch and pull the door handle like you normally would and then pull the screwdriver towards the car at the same time, the two claw like pieces should rotate away from eachother and the door should close now, hope this helps

1998 v70 estate auto transmission / coolant loss problem, no leaks visible

Do you smell antifreeze in the interior? It may be a leak in the heater core system. Does the engine run rough? Then it is a head gasket, if so, you should see more white exhaust than usual.

Volvo V70 Workshop/Repair manual

No.

You should purchase the factory repair manual. With current dealership repair rates at 90 to 120 dollars per hour, It should pay for itself the first time you use it.

If you want a cheaper manual, Chilton's is good if you are technically proficient, and Hayne's is better if you aren't. Both can be purchased at Auto-Zone, NAPA, etc,

There is a small hook on the right(driver side) of the latch that you can push with a screwdriver (it is hard to see you have to poke around a little)after you take the panel plug out of the rear door cover.I have the same problem I found that that the coil has become week and it does not have enough power to push the lath open.
