Question about 1993 Lexus Ls 400

1 Answer

My car is not getting any fuel. I removed the fuel pump, bench tested the fuel pump and it squirted gas about 2 feet away. I put it back on the electrical pump control has fire going into the box but none coming out. Plus, the pump won't once I got it back together. Is there a relay or something else besides the electronic pump control unit.

There is a fuel pump relay in all of them. The owners manual should have the location. It could very well be bad. There is also a fuse. Do change your fuel filter as well and if needed, check fuel pressure regulator on fuel rail.

My 2003 Malibu won't squirt any gas out the rail but I can hear the fuel pump so Y is it not starting every time I clean the park plugs it starts now its NoT

Gas coming out of the rail doesn't mean the pump is putting out the right fuel pressure. Slap a pressure gauge on it and actually test it.

1991 Dodge Dakota fuel pump wireing. I removed pump and tested OK- Tried switching relays (all same in relay box) Still no cycling only a slight noise then silent. Ran 12-v (spiced) to left wire of 5.

engine cranking do you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse? I don't know what testing you have done? I am trying to decide if more than one issue? Did you check voltage and ground at fuel pump connector, engine cranking? Initial prime is one thing but after that, if no rpm signal, no spark--no fuel injector pulse--no fuel pump. W/o rpm signal computer won't ground the asd relay. Any applicable trouble codes?
In my opinion, you can't bench test a fuel pump, I've seen faulty fuel pumps that would run up a storm on the bench but make no pressure when in the gas tank.

2001 Hyundai doesn't accuerate when it first starts. It hardly moves then slowly picks up speed.

I could b gas filter or the filter on fuel pump, or injectors most cars have gas filters on the drivers side railing on frame it's easy to change one bolt on holder and most have two clamps just remove clamps and bolt switch out put back. But be very careful it is pressurized once fuel line is removed fuel will squirt out turn face away.

How to bench test a fuel pump before installing it in fuel tank?

Run a Tube on both ends pump. you can use gas as the fluid since you'll have to prime it any ways. You put one end in the gas tank the other hold to opening to flow back into tank. Big thing to remember is that the pump has a arrow that shows which way the flow goes. Two way to set up leads on pump is straight jumpers off the battery. This is the safe way to do this. Gator clips to battery so you can disconnect there and not at pump.""""No sparks by gas!!!!!""""

My wife ran car out of gas and then ran battery dead trying to start it. Now car will turn over but wont catch and start. Any ideas what the problem is?

The fuel pump is cooled by the very fuel it pumps. Without fuel to keep it cool it can simply burn out; especially if it has been running during a lengthy attempt to restart. Pump function can be tested by loosening the Shrader (car tire type valve) valve fuel rail on the engine whilst the pump is running and seeing the fuel squirt out. If no fuel squirts then replace the pump.

Fuel pump insalllation

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Jack
  • Safety stands
  • Wrench
  • Socket wrench
  • Pliers
  • Screwdriver
  1. 1 Jack up the car and support it with safety stands. Be sure the car is high enough to get the tank out from underneath the car. You could use a car lift instead. If you use a lift, you will need an automatic transmission jack or a second person to help you lower the tank to the ground.
  2. 2 Unclamp and remove the filler and vent hoses from the gas tank. Most are held on with aero type hose clamps. Unplug any wiring to the fuel pump and sensors. Using wrenches or pliers, remove the fuel lines at the pump. You might need to lower the tank one to two feet to remove the lines and wires.
  3. 3 Support the gas tank with the jack. Use socket wrenches to unbolt the gas tank straps. Remove or reposition the straps out of the way of the tank. Lower the tank some and check to make sure all lines, hoses and wires have been removed. Continue lowering the tank and place it on the ground.
  4. 4 Clean the tank area around the fuel pump assembly of all dirt and debris. Release the pump assembly retainer. This may held to the tank with a clamp, a slip ring or screw nuts. Remove the pump assembly from the tank. Drain any liquid fuel from the assembly and place on a work bench.
  5. 5 Remove the pump from the assembly and discard or replace the entire assembly. Some pumps can only be replaced as a unit. If you can replace just the pump be sure to install the new sock filter that comes with the pump.
  6. 6 Return the repaired pump assembly to the tank. Use new gaskets or O-rings if supplied. Secure it into the tank with the retainer.
  7. 7 Place the gas tank back onto the jack and raise it to the car. Reinstall the fuel lines, hoses and wiring. Continue raising into its cavity on the body. Secure the tank with the gas tank straps and tighten with a socket wrench.
  8. 8 Reinstall the filler and vent hoses. Tighten the clamps. It is a good idea to also replace the fuel filter at this time. Lower the car to the ground. Test for leaks and repair any found.

Car turn over but will not start

hmmm. couple of thing to check, the first, are u getting fuel? probably a dead fuel pump to check this, there should be a shradder valve on the fuel rail (shradder valve usually look like a valve stem thingy off a tire, but all metal). To test, no spark or open flame...cigarettes etc.. put the car in the on position, you should hear a "whirr" from the trunk. that sounds is your fuel pump. underneath the hood, push down on the little shradder valve and see if any fuel squirts out (watch out for your face and eyes) this is the redneck quicky way of testing it. If you have fuel pressure check for spark. make sure that you have no gas sprayed anywhere....maybe do this first...probably safer. remove one of the spark plugs and put the spark plug boot back on plug. using plyers, hold the spark plug so that the metal threads on the spark plug touch something metal. now have someone turn the car over and look to see if there is spark or not.

good luck, hope this helps

Need to replace fuel pump on 97 buick la sabre need to know where it's located

it's in the fuel tank! need to get it u in the air about 4 or more feet of the ground. you may get away with it being less and there is two straps holding the tank it they are attached to the body with 15mm bolts. you will need to disconnect the filler neck where you put gas by taking the hose clamps off and then disconnect fuel lines and electrical after you have it half way down straps removed! ask any more question you have

Wont start , no fuel getting to fuel pump

Are you sure there is gas in the tank? I "fixed" more than one car that came in for a fuel pump replacement that ran out of gas. If you have gas, check the fuel pump fuse, fuel pump relay, check for power to the fuel pump. check wiring, kinked lines, clogged fuel filter. Sometimes new FI cars are hard to prime if there is air in the system. Take off the air filter and have someone squirt fuel down the throttle body while you crank the engine. If it fires, you know it's not getting fuel, but when it does fire , it may prime the pump enough to run.
