1994 V6/AT Isuzu Trooper- Exhaust Manifold Bolt Studs stripped at muffler pipe connection. Can they be replaced without removing the passengers side manifold? What is best manual to cover this? Bob in Puerto Rico, US

There are several stud removers on the market and several broken bolt removers as well.
The best ones are the ones that have a reversed spiral inside them and tighten down on the stripped or broken bolt / stud as they are turned to remove it.
The Sears unit I use are about 1 inch tall and can be used with a wrench or socket.
Set over the bolt / stud , tap lightly as you slowly turn the tool with a small hammer to start it on the bolt, as soon as it catches switch to a wrench and remove as you would a regular bolt.

I need to remove the exhaust manifold on the right side of a 94 4.9l engine in a cadillac deville. It has a broken bolt in the exhaust. What is involved in removing the manifold?


I suggest you use all new exhaust manifold hardware and torque new bolts to 20 Ft Lbs.
4.5L and 4.9L Engines
RIGHT
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the air cleaner. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Disconnect the oxygen and coolant temperature sensors. Remove the catalytic converter-to-AIR pipe clip bolt. Remove the upper manifold-to-cylinder head bolts. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Disconnect the converter air pipe bracket from the stud and remove the converter-to-manifold exhaust pipe. Support the engine cradle with screw jacks and remove the rear cradle bolts. Loosen the front cradle bolts and slightly lower the Engine cradle. Remove the remaining exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head bolts, the AIR pipe, and the manifold. Clean the gasket mounting surfaces.
To install:
Install the exhaust manifold and replace the AIR pipe. Tighten the manifold mounting bolts to 16-18 ft. lbs. (21-24 Nm). Install the manifold-to-converter exhaust pipe and replace the converter air pipe bracket to the stud. Raise the Engine cradle and install the rear cradle bolts. Tighten to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm). Lower the vehicle. Replace the upper manifold-to-cylinder head bolts. Replace the converter air pipe to AIR pipe clip bolt. Connect the coolant temperature and oxygen sensor connectors. Replace the exhaust crossover pipe. Replace the air cleaner and connect the negative battery cable. Start the Engine and check for leaks.

What is the torque setting for 1999 ford 182 exaust manifold


Check this for 1996-1999 FORD 3.0L (182) V6 DOHC...
- Install the exhaust manifold with a new exhaust manifold gasket.
- Install the exhaust manifold retaining studs and tighten to 13-16 ft. lbs. (18-22 Nm) in the sequence illustrated.
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Position the Y-pipe assembly using a new flange gasket and install all the retaining nuts and bolts loosely.
Starting at the front of the system tighten the Y-pipe to exhaust manifold nuts to 26-34 ft. lbs. (34-46 Nm).

- Tighten the converter to transaxle nut and bolt to 30 ft. lbs. (40.3 Nm). Tighten the converter outlet bolts to 26-34 ft. lbs. (34-46 Nm).

Ran over a large rock creating a hole on a braided section(expansion joint?) of my exhaust manifold piping to front exhaust piping on my 1994 Trooper S. What is this braided section called and can it be...


Thats the flex pipe probably attached to your converter. This type of pipe is used because of how the engine sits in the engine compartment and is used to reduce stress on the exhaust system. This can be done at home but it requires wielding skills. The piece you need is the flex joint. If you have not done this before I might recommend you have some assistance with it. With the Downpipe, Flexpipe and Catalytic Converter all being one piece and only needing the flex joint it will take two or three hours.

How hard is it to replace the y pipe and catalytic converter.


not to bad as long as you have a set of oxygen and acetalyne torches, a sawsall with metal blade. Heat one nut at a time on the manifold and remove then go to next ! you do not want those to break or strip cause then you will have a world of pain.

Torque specification on a 2003 alero cylinder heads 3.4 liter


3.4L Engine To Remove:
  1. Remove the lower intake manifold.
  2. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
  3. If removing the right cylinder head, remove the catalytic converter from exhaust manifold.
  4. If removing the left cylinder head, remove the engine oil dipstick and tube.
  5. Remove the rocker arms and pushrods.
  6. Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts.
  7. Remove the cylinder head.
  8. Clean the mating surfaces on the following items:
    • Cylinder head
    • Cylinder block
    • Intake manifold
  9. Clean the cylinder block bolt threads.
NOTE: During disassembly, keep the valve train components together for proper location during assembly.
To Install:
NOTE: Coat the cylinder head bolt threads using thread sealer.
  1. If removed, install the following components:
    • Exhaust manifold
    • Accessory studs
    • Spark plugs
  2. Place the cylinder head gasket in position over the dowel pins. Ensure that the THIS SIDE UP note is showing.
  3. Install the cylinder head. Cylinder head torque sequence ’99-‘00 gmpc_v6_14.gif

  4. Install the new cylinder head bolts.
    • Tighten the cylinder head bolts a first pass to 44 ft lb (60 Nm).
  5. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence an additional 95 degrees.
  6. Install the intake gasket.
  7. Install the pushrods and rocker arms.
  8. Raise and support the vehicle.
  9. Install the catalytic converter and dipstick tube and indicator if removed.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Install the exhaust crossover pipe.
  12. Install the intake manifolds.
  13. Connect negative battery cable.
  14. Fill the cooling system.

Remove starter 1999 trooper


Lower the left,driver side exhaust pipe from the manifold, dont have to take all way out just undo three nuts from exhaust manifold, and three at rear of pipe, slide pipe to rear and possibly drob cross bracket below starter, Then just undo the two starter bolts and two wires from starter, and it will roll out between engine and frame.

Can't find the starter motor on a 94 Isuzu Trooper. Trying to clean battery connections or replace starter motor, but i can't find it!


Started located right below the drivers side exhaust manifold where the down pipe attaches. You will have to remove most of the exhaust system from the catalytic converter forward to get ot it. this is not a job for the faint hearted or Sunday mechanic. Make sure you spray the bolts on the exhaust system and be prepaired for bolts to break off.

Replace 2003 Chevy S10 V6 Exhaust Manifold


On the studs on the bottom be sure to soak them with a good penitrating oil over night. Then on the removal if you feel like they are binding work them back and forth. They may break but you should get new studs with the new one. On the head side just be carefull, if you break a bolt off in the head you have real problems then. Not really complex just use your head and don't be to forcefull.

these did not have a 3rd sensor
V6 engine only has one each side just after exhaust manifold flange.
