You will need to get the code pulled it will tell you exactly whats wrong.
These S80 especially of this vintage like to throw out codes because of wear and tear on the many sensors, to diagnose these faults you need a "Volvo VIDA dice" scanning tool (look it up on ebay) and buy the part from somewhere like FCP or IPD and replace it yourself, it can save you buckets of money.
or you have to go to a Volvo workshop to get your car scanned.

Hello. I recommend that you take your vehicle to an autozone, or other autoparts store, or a volvo dealership and get it scanned. That is the only way to pinpoint the issues that are generating the engine system service required message. I would do this ASAP so that you do not find yourself stranded somewhere. good luck with it. regards, Joe

There are many codes that could trigger the Service Engine light. Have Autozone, etc. pull the code. Without it you won't find out much without manual diagnosis.

This means the computer has detected a problem with the car. Take it to Autozone to get scanned. They will tell you what the problem is and it is free.
