Check for air leaks or vacuum leaks around intake at the throttle body, be sure the rubber on the plastic of the air intake is sealing on the throttle body. may also have bad valve cover gaskets allowing oil into spark plug holes deteriorating the coil boots and causing a misfire.plugs will be good til about 80,000miles

I have an 02 dodge Ram 1500,4.7,2nd. I changed my map sensor and now my truck either dies or idles rough. Any ideas what is causing this?

There could be a few different reasons why your truck is experiencing problems after replacing the map sensor. Here are a few things you can try:

Make sure the map sensor is installed correctly. Check the installation instructions and ensure that the sensor is properly seated in the correct location.

Check for any other damage or issues with the engine. If the engine has any other problems, such as a vacuum leak or a faulty ignition system, it could cause the truck to idle rough or stall.

Check for any codes or diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that may be stored in the engine's computer. These codes can help identify any problems with the engine or other systems that may be causing the issues you are experiencing.

Check the fuel system. If the fuel pump, fuel filter, or fuel injectors are not functioning properly, it could cause the truck to idle rough or stall.

Rough idling can also be caused by clogged filters. ... Bad spark plugs, bad spark plug wires and a bad distributor cap are other common causes of rough idling. These items are all important parts of what keeps a vehicle running. Spark plugs provide the spark that ignites the air and fuel mixture within the cylinders.

Rough idle, rough in drive

Is the check engine light on ?
Have you checked the computer for trouble codes ?
You could have one bad spark plug even with only 30k on it.
Problem could also be a dirty injector.

Have you cleaned your throttle body? You can use a carb cleaner but tb cleaner is best. It doesn't take long and will improve the performance if it hasn't been cleaned. Should be cleaned about once a year depending on how many miles you drive.

your probably feeling a rough idle of the engine. need a tune up?

in park the engine is not loaded down, just idling at a low rpm=rough
in drive with brake on you have put some load on motor also at low rpm=rough
in drive on the road engine is at higher rpm, = smoother

generally 4 cylinder motors idle a bit rough, especially if one spark plug is not firing right or fouled or one bad spark plug wire. tune up may fix it. if it is not stumbling real bad or stalling then you can live with it.
