With your van turned off and key not in. pull the fuse out and put it back in.do you have a portable dvd player plugged into the socket in the back seat? make sure it is turned off every time you turn off your van. I have the same problem because the dvd player is too much for the electrical outlet.

JVD car radio. Why won't it shut off when key is shut off?

The radio has 2 power feeds, one is wired to battery so it has power all the time for memory and the other power feed is from the ignition circuit so when you turn the ignition on it turns the radio on. You need to determine if the ignition feed is shutting off with the ignition. If the power feed is shutting the power off then there is a problem with the radio. If not then there is a problem in the ignition circuit.

Half my dashboard is not working

Center console or drivers. It\'s most like driver and you simply have a burned out light. However replacing it is a pain in most cars. You usually can not just reach behind like with tail lights but have to remove the whole lower panel. It least it not a Prizm. To change it bulbs you have to remove the glove box console, then the drivers side console just to remove the center console. I gave up and used heavy duty Velcro to hold a cigarette lighter powered LED light above the radio to light up the center console. You might try something similar for you dashboard. Also, just make sure they are not turned down since their brightness is adjustable.

2001 Pontiac Bonn. has no power to the inst. panel when turning the key to accessory position. Other problems that also exist are, no power to the following, radio, heater/acc controls, wipers. When...

I would have suspected the ignition switch, but it sounds like you've replaced it. It is internal to the housing you described. The first thing to do is to actually check for power at the ignition switch. There are 2 connectors going to it. One provides power, the other sends out power when key is turned. Check for good 12V at both the larger red wires, they should be battery powered and live all the time. If you have power on them then turn the key to run, you should have power on the orange wires (ignition feeds). The large yellow wire should only have power when key is in crank position. If there is not 12V at the red wires all the time then likely you have a large (maxi fuse 60A) under the hood electrical center blown. It could also be a blown fusible link coming off the starter battery post that feeds the electrical center if the fuses are good but no power across them.

Sounds like you have a short to power. there are several wires that connect to your radio and console . one is the ignition wire that kills power to the radio and console when the key turns off. What has probably happened is that wire has found a constant power source from another wire and it constantly stays on. finding this short is very difficult because it is under the dash so you might want to take it to a professional. Also if the van has the feature where the radio doesnt cut off until you open the doors, then your short may be somewhere in the sensors on the doors.

Sounds like you have a short circuit somewhere, and now possibly a flat battery. Too many possible causes of short circuit. I assume you have checked fuses and relays.

My 2003 honda radio won't turned off and ignition is off

Somebody must have pulled the radio out for repair and fumbled with the wires that lead to the radio. There are 2 power cables, one powered continuously, ignition on or off to keep the radio station memory and other settings alive, and another cable that is powered only when the ignition is in the #2 position, or ON. Evidently the "memory" cable i mentioned, was used to power the whole radio in your vehicle. Before taking the radio out and working on it, remember to have the radio security code at hand, because it wont work after you reconnect it.

Bryan_you44,
I too had an issue with the dash controls, cruise ctrl, no speedometer. It happened all of a sudden on way back from Chicago. I think you may have the same issue. I put some change on the console in front of the display, which pretty much screams "PLACE STUFF HERE". Guess what, DON"T DO THAT!!!!. I had a dime lose it's way into the back of the display and shorted the whole Freakin thing out. $650 to repair.

Error message on my ford radio

Yes - there is a solution here.

The problem here is that you must leave continuous power to the radio. Any interruption causes the countdown or wait period to start all over again. The secret is to ensure the key is turned in the ignition to accessories point I or the first point on the ignition that activates power to the radio.

If the key is not turned in the ignition as outlined, the radio will automatically shut off after one hour which is a power saving feature (which is great) but it also has a side effect in this case of shutting off the radio before the time limit has been reached!!

Obviously - as you must leave the key turned in the ignition during the wait period (which may be up to 4 hours) please ensure the vehicle is parked in a safe location and well away from any opportunistic thief.!!

Hope it helps or for anyone reading this in a similar situation - this information applies to many vehicles and radio types as many manufacturers have a similar security feature - not just Ford.

1985 chevy truck, ignition once turned on will not turn off.

The starter solinoid return spring is worn out replace the solinoid and the return spring and you won't have the same problem. It is best if you canafford it to replace the whole starter with a rebuilt starter. The reason is since it has locked up and kept spinning it has damaged the flywheel ring gear so if you replace the starter it will save you from having to replace the flywheel ring gear.
