The release cable if you look to where it attaches to the lever assy. push with your hand on the foot pedal (to keep from getting hit in face) then pull back the little release where the little cable attches it should release the e brake unless the e brake drums are stuck then that means you are stuck.

Unless the brake cable is caught on something under your truck then they are already released. When you push the pedal down you pull on the cable engauging the P brakes, when you release the bakes you take tension off.

SOURCE: parking brake release

There should be a manual release. Reach up along the parking brake pedal. Ford has a manual lever that you pull toward yourself to release the parking brake. Hope this helps our with your problem. Best of luck.

I applied the emergency brake on my 1994 ford ranger, I pulled the brake release, the emergerncy break pedal came up but brakes did not release.

Most likely the parking brake cables are corroded in the housings. You might free them up by shooting penetrating oil into the open ends of the housing and working the cables back and forth, otherwise you can disconnect the cables and run absent a parking brake, or replace the cables and housing assemblies.

Good Morning, I have a 1996 Chevy S-10 Blazer that I used the parking brake on yesterday. However, when I went to use the hand parking release, it would not release the parking break and it felt like...

Yup! That is probably what is causing your dilema. To remove the lower panel, the parking brake release cable must be disconnected. It is not hard to reconnect if you know what you are looking for. The service manual does not provide a picture or I would post it for you. Anyway, it just "Snaps" into place on the parking brake pedal mechanizm. The cable just slips into a slot on the release lever. You can actually reach up and release the brake with your hand. (Be carefull not to get your fingers pinched when the pedal flies rearward) If you can get the pedal released by hand, then you have found the lever that the cable attaches to.

The emergency brake will not release when I pull the release handle.

theres a product called release all spray it down the parking break cable ends in the parking break housing
also if need to work asap put truck in reverse and slowely work it back and forth rock the truck

or if all else fails remove tires and wach drums with a hammer untill they release then once open pull the cables with vice grips and have friend pull hand break
so you get a back and forth motion untill cable free remem ber there are 2 rear drums on every truck
so do both cables

Parking brake cable snapped but brake is on. any

Under the dash, where the break release handle is, you'll see a lever where the release cable is/was attached to. Either push forward, or pull back this lever and it will release the parking break. BE CAREFUL the foot peddle for the parking break doesn't hit you in the face!

I released the parking brake on my 02 Chevy Tahoe and the handle (on the dash, not center console) hyper-extended and the brake would not release. I thought I would try to pull the wire with pliers but...

Hello all, this happend to my 2002 taboe as well. There is a handle under the dash below the steering column. The handle is conected via a cable to the parking brake foot mechanism. This cable is known to break. This part is available online through numerous websites for roughly 17-25 dollars, ebay has it but it goes for roughly 35 dollars. It is very easy to install with a pair of pliers and a wrench. The cable is about a foot long and comes with the release lever already installed.

Parking break wont release

I suspect the parking brake cables are rusted & corroded inside the cable housings. They are coated but they do freeze up.
