My 2008 VW Rabbit fails to shift properly when I accelerate. This issue doesn't happen every time I accelerate, but seems to happen more often the faster I accelerate. The transmission gets hung up at the top of 4th gear and won't shift to 5th. The engine will stay at 3,000 rpm, but the car won't continue accelerating and sometimes starts bucking. If I switch to manual mode, I can force the car into 5th gear and it immediately responds. After getting up to highway speed, the car occasionally misses. Any ideas? Thanks for your help

Any check engine lights? If not could still be just a Mass Air flow running on minimum and won't make the Check engine come on or something more major like the wastegate valve on the turbo, and or the vacuum or or the vanes in the turbo seizing.
Any odd noises like air flowing could be a disconnected turbo pipe also.
You can try unplugging the mass air flow sensor and try it like that. If it runs better (not perfect) it could be just that. If it does let me know and I'll tell you what to do.

From my experience in owning a VW it souns electrical. Most issues with VWs are electrical related. Most likely a realy of some type. Could also be fuel injection but that is electronic too.

2008 Holden Viva automatic. Do I need a new gear box?

Question edited for clarity.

You need a new mechanic! None of those issues are 'normal'.

It sounds like lazy shift solenoids or low ATF fluid. You need a transmission specialist or an auto electrician, they use a pro grade scan tool computer to diagnose. They are bi-directional and can tell the solenoids to operate and confirm that they did. They can also record what is happening as you are driving. These scan tools cost 5 grand, so I doubt your mechanic has one.

I have BMW530I 2008, if i speed fast and the gear shifts from 4th to5th or if I'm driving on the 6th and made kickdown to the 5th, I get a transnission fault and I have to swich off the car and turn it...

Hello thank you for your detailed information. I am doing some research on your issue and would like to ask you 1st, if it seems like there is any pattern to this issue meaning does it seem to happen more when the car is warm or cold, while going up hill/ down hill, etc. Also, what, if any, troubleshooting have you completed? Have any controllers, sensors, etc been ruled out. You can start by start by verifying the oil level make sure its not blackened, "glitery" or burned smelling. Beyond that I will have to continue my research and wait for a response from you. Any and all details will be useful. Thank you for using www.fixya.com We look forward to getting you back on the road properly! -Tim

Hi I have an 08 vw jetta 125 tsi the turbo doesn't

I would check the pressure blow off valve to see if it is stuck partially open. check hoses for holes or leaks where clamped. Also if you have a inter cooler for this turbo check it for cracks or leaks a pressure check of air to the cooler then spray with soapy solution to look for bubbles no bubbles after cooler good.

Hi, can the clutch in a VW rabbit be adjusted ? it seems to push too far away to the floor and I am short (5.2") which isnt ideal . thanks Mel

Mel I have a short girlfriend and I gave her my manual shift Saturn. I looked all over hell and found many contraptions for this by searching under orthopedics and little people. The gadgets however were all over 100 dollars so I fashioned a piece of wood with a couple bolts and it did the trick. On a newer car such as yours however, maybe it is worth the expense. These folks were very helpful.

Hard shifting automatic tiptronic transmission.

Is it a 6-cyl engine? If so, tt's possible that the shop where you had your oil changed started draining the transmission fluid, mistaking the tranny drain plug for the oil plug. While it may seem unlikely, I've a friend that had the same thing happen. Apparently, it's not unheard of for a person to confuse one drain plugs for the other. The thing that complicates it more is that the VW tranny does not have a standard fill spout (VW considers it a sealed system), making it difficult for a non-VW shop to rectify the situation.
Even if the car is a 4-cyl, the issue you're describing still sounds like you've lost a quart or two of fluid.
