My 1998 vw is getting less mileage per gallon, and my check engine light is on. I scanned it and the code came up that the throttle body control module needs fixed or replaced. Oh yes and the oil light comes on and beeps then shuts off and I haven't gone 3000 miles. So would fixing the throttle body control module fix these problems?

Yes it will!! you have issues with the tps and air flow valve on the throttle body also you may have to use a code tool to reset all that once the unit is replaced to insure proper throttle response and speed controll through the ECM to the new unit

My engine light came up with the code p0068 & u0121, any one knows what should i do with that to fix it?

p0068 1. Clear all fault codes, remove intake boot using a rag that has been dampened with carb cleaner clean the throttle bore.

2. Using a full function VW compatible scan tool enter 01 engine management. From there, select basic settings enter block 060. This sets the throttle body adaptation.

3. Start the engine and using the scan tool select measured values, enter block 002 this will display the MAF sensor in gm's per second in field 4. At idle it should be 3 to 5 and at 2500 RPMs, it should be 9-15 and at WOT should be 90 or better. You posted 2 seperate issues. Please, one issue per posting.

There are almost 1,000 possible trouble codes that can turn on the check engine light. Asking us to guess which one caused your problem is a waste of time. Go to an auto parts store and have them scan the codes. Then post them here. THEN we can help

Make sure the air filter is clean. Have a diagnostic scan done to the engine to see if there are any trouble codes or issues that would reduce your gas mileage. You are getting around 11 or 12 miles to the gallon, which isn't very good. But, judging by the low amount of miles on the car, you apparently do all your driving in traffic, and short distances with a lot of stop and go. If you let the engine warm up for long periods of time, especially in cold weather, that will drop your mileage considerably. Letting a car warm up for 10 or 15 minutes in the winter gets you 0 miles per gallon for that amount of time. Add all these factors up, and figure in the poor quality of today's fuel, 12 miles per gallon is not too far off from what you should be getting. If you have the v6 engine, your mileage was probably around 15mpg when the car was new. Now if you were to take your car on a road trip where you could drive a long distance with the cruise control set on 65mph, you would probably get around 18mpg.

I would unplug the parking brake switch and see if the light goes out. The erratic idle indicates a possible vacuum leak, check carefully around the throttle body mounting. Since it sat for a long time the throttle body gasket may be leaking. Check the intake manifold for tightness too. You probably replaced the PCV valve already. Leaking head gasket, may want to do a compression test. I did some checking and unfortunately your mileage may not be that far off, I got a wide range of fuel mileage ratings from 11mpg to 14mpg. That being said, a malfunctioning emissions system or restricted exhaust could cause excessive fuel consumption. Any chance a rat climbed in your tail pipe and built a nest? Ha Ha Ha. You haven't mentioned any check engine lights being on, still there could be an emissions system problem.

First things I would look at is,did they put 10w30 oil in and not 5w20 or 0w20,it makes a difference in mileage (if they run out of the correct viscosity oil they WILL put in what they have).
Did the service include a spark plug change? Is the spark plug gap correct?
Did they do a brake service? Is a brake dragging,a little to tight?Did they clean the throttle body?Maybe the engine was running a little lean before and now is at the proper fuel mixture, with less MPGs but running clean at the exhaust.
Weather conditions?Head winds and colder temps reduce MPG.
