My radio If I've put the code in three times and it only says off what do I do to my 1998 Volvo S70

U get that from the dealer.

Each radio is set to its own, so no one can tell you what yours was set to.
But any dealer of that brand of radio can reset it and tell you the new one.

Keep the ignition in position 1 and the radio on until code appears on the radio, then enter code.

I know it off by heart but i'm not good at explaining things and my terminology isn't perfect so you'll have to wait for the next guy.

You need to leave the key in the ignition in position I (accessory) for two hours, after that it will say code and you can input the code. The radio switches to "OFF" after three failed attempts with the wrong code. If you dont have the code call the dealership with your VIN and they can give it to you.

I had a similar problem. The speedometer didn't work. This is going to sound a little strange, but, at some point the battery died. When the new battery was put in, all of a sudden the speedometer worked again. Can't explain it, but it's true. Maybe just disconnecting and re-connecting the battery would help you, BUT BE CAREFUL about the radio. When the battery is disconnected (or dies) you have to put the radio code in again to use your radio. Make sure you have the 4-digit radio code before you disconnect the battery. If you enter it 3 times and fail, google what to do then.

It only takes 2 hours with the car not running and the key in the on position so all the lights light up

Look in the manual for the code - usually someone has written it in there. If not, call the nearest Volvo dealership and give them the VIN - they can tell you what your code is. Then, with the engine off, turn the key to the "I" position (Roman numeral one) and leave it for at least 4 hours. The radio should then read "Code. and you can enter the 4 digit number! Good Luck!

You have to put the battery on a charger and leave the key turned to the accessory position, meaning the car is not running but the radio still displays off. You will have to wait approximately 50 minutes to 2 hours till the word "code" is displayed.Once that has occured, you can put in your code and it will work. Or you can drive around for that length of time until it says code and you will input the correct code and you radio will work. I did this on a long trip.
