Toyota Corolla, manual 1991, Squeaking sound when turn the steeri

Toyota Corolla, 4 dr. sedan, manual gear, 1991 model, 210,000 miles. I bought the car new and still the car is running good. Very reliable car with good mileage. I took care of the car with regular maintenance, oil change, filter changes, and taking care of any problems like cv joint or shocks promptly. Recently I am noticing one thing which doesn’t sound right and would appreciate any advice. When the car is running and is in neutral gear (or in gear and clutch pressed), when I am turning the steering wheel, it is creating a constant noise. I removed the hood to find the source of the noise. Apparently the noise is coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment (belt assembly in the same side). I may not be correct identifying the exact source of noice, but the sound is consistent whenever I am turning the steering wheel when the engine is running, and the car is not moving. When I am driving the car, there is no noise.

This is normal for a 210K Toyota Corolla. What you are hearing is the sound made by the power steering pump. Check fluid level and fill as needed. Some noise in the instances you are mentioning is normal.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the advice. When i checked the Power Steering fluid level I found that almost empty. Once i filled it up, it seems to be ok. thanks."

If it is a squeal when you turn it to the stop, that will be the power steering pump attaining maximum pressure and going over the relief valve which it is designed to do. A slipping belt will produce a squeal also, so check the belt tension and wear. Top off the power steering resevoir and you should be good to go. Marvin T.

I have got a Toyota Corolla 1.6 16V 1991 model 4 AFE, gear number 5 just pop out while driving what needs to be done here?

This is likely due to an issue with the gear linkage, such as a disconnected or broken part, or a worn out gear selector cable. The first step would be to check if any of the linkage components are disconnected or broken, and replace them if necessary. If that doesn't solve the issue, then the gear selector cable may need to be replaced. If the cable is worn out, it won't be able to properly move the gears, causing the gear to pop out.

Toyota corolla 1993 4e efi 16 valve manual.

4 speeds were very rare in American models. Tercel, corolla's smaller counterpart came in 4speed manuals but that was to suffice the 12valve motor. Call any Toyota dealer, give them the last 8 of vin and they can verify. Happy holidays.

Engine?

not sure what the sound was, but if there's a blown head gasket, the water that gets in a cylinder won't compress and it won't turn over very well and sometimes not at all. that may be what they mean by "holding compression".

check for water in the oil...it'll foam up on the dipstick,

Get a second opinion from a reputable shop other than Ford.... If it's a head gasket, it's much cheaper than an engine swap, if that's what you're thinking...
