Lots of noise comming from free wheel hub and bearing while in two wheel drive and just before comming to a stop it actually feels like it engages i took the free wheel hub off and the noise stopped a

the freewheeling hubs work when the axle is driving by transfereing the drive to the hubs from the axle. If you remove the hubs and the noise goes I suggest the problem is not in the hubs but in the cv joint just inside the hub. When you engage the F/Wheel hubs you are loading up these cv joints and if they are worn then that is when you will get the noise

What does free wheeling hubs do i have lots of noise comming from them while in two wheel drive

Free wheeling hubs are installed on the hubs to engage the axle and lock to the hubs making them turn. When you disengage the hubs (freewheel) the axle is not driving the hub hence you have effective 2 wheel drive I suggest you check wheel bearings or make sure that they are in fact disengaged properly

How to change wheel bearings on 2004 Pontiac Montana

Once the car has been jacked up, the rear wheels chocked, and the wheel has been removed, it will be necessary to remove the axle nut. If the front wheel hub has been on the car for some years, the axle shaft spline is probably rusted to the wheel hub. You will need some liquid wrench spray. A rotary type of wheel puller will most likely be needed to free the hub from the spline. This is done with the use of a 4 lb. sledge hammer, hitting a rotating handle. Periodically slamming the end of the puller threaded to the axle will help to gradually free the hub from the shaft. Be prepared to spend some time doing this. It took me 2 1/2 hours to free mine. U tube shows how to remove a wheel hub, but they don't tell you what to do if it is seized to the shaft. They show examples of hubs that are new, or have been freed before showing how to remove...

I would like to know if the wheel bearing is in the shaft or the hub?

The Constant Velocity (CV) joints are located on the inner and outer edges of the axle shaft. The axle shaft runs through the hub and bearing in the spindle.

Unless your rocky was custom or rebuild, the four wheel drive on the 90-92 rocky is not auto engage. it is manual. you have to use the four wheel gear shifter located left of the main gear shifter.
