GMC Envoy 2002. When I get to traffic stop light. It will stall .. RPM is about 500 at idle. Doesn't do it when cold ( idle around 1000RPM. runs ok when driving just stalls when you get to stop sign or traffic light.

Should idle between 500-600. Clean your throttle body with the battery disconnected to help with the fluctuation. The roaring very well could be your fan clutch. Fan clutches are a known problem with our platform. If engaged, will sound like an airplane.

For whacky temperatures and discharge locations, disconnect the + cable from the battery for a minute. Then reconnect it solidly. This will cause the mixer doors to recalibrate and work as expected once again.

My 04 Envoy's engine RPM would drop when idling in gear at a traffic light, etc. with the A/C on - and the air wouldn't be as cold. It didn't stall though. Have you changed your spark plugs yet? Should be done at 100k/mi. It may be time for a tune up, too.

Probably a Vaccum leak which Vaccum hoses need to be checked or Vaccum hoses needs to be reversed or it could be the position motion sensors.

It can be issue with IAC( idle air control valve) causing the problem.

There are many other possibilities causing these idle issues. Engine idles rough.

This is too low an idle speed, it should be around 620 RPM. You probably need to have the throttle body cleaned.

check sparkplugs wires and coil pack for fire if not that run a compression check

this is caused by slow engine idle speed, do the procedure below.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

depending on the motor, all makes and models should ranged no less then 500 rpm and 1500 rpm, the most common idle is about 1000 rpm and 1200rpm.

I had problems with the idle and with the car stalling and found that it was a failed oxygen sensor. I replaced it and the car runs great now.
