The fuel pump in the petrol tank has a sock that acts as a coarse
filter. This sock gets clogged with muck causing the car to starve of
fuel intermittently and lead to the stalling as you've described. If
you pour in some injector cleaner (contains detergents) or methylated
spirits it may just fix the problem. Condensation (water) in the fuel
creates a slimy goop that clogs filters. It worked for me and my 1992
Daihatsu Charade, and have heard that other cars with similar symptoms
have been cured in the same way, usually after expensive repairs have
already proved unsuccessful . A cheap solution really! Try this first.
Good Luck.

if it is a 1.9L engine you could have dropped a valve seat this is common with 1.9L engines and requires a new head and engine rebuild does the engine turn over and if it does is it really fast cause if its turning over really fast it would be a timming belt broken
no but if you go in the trunk on driver side behind the carpet its a black box there is a reset button on it push the reset it restart the system that should help
You can go to a shop that do this kind of work and find out. Mine broke the timing belt and damage the head. I had a used head put on It is not very hard to find a ford escort engine.Replacing the engine with a used one would be the cheapest thing to do but change the timing belt right away, You can do some research on line to find out how much a engine cost. You can call around where you live.
Does this pertain to the Crank Shaft or the Ignition sensor? I've never heard of a crank sensor... I'll check...
I found this from a guy on another website..."It does however have a crank sensor and if you look at the lower crank pulley just to the back of the pulley and go around the pulley you should find the sensor mounted on a bracket. You should see what appears as a sprocket with widely spaced teeth on the engine side of the pulley. This "sprocket" so to speak is what the crank sensor "reads". I believe that the crank sensor is the only sensor used for engine timing. "
You need to clean the throttle valve and the idle speed control valve, they get sludged up and cause this issue. Get a can of throttle valve cleaner from your local parts store, pull off the rubber flex air intake hose and start engine, have someone hold engine at high idle while you spray the contents of the can into the intake, when the can is about 1/2 empty let the engine stall, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and then restart, quickly push the throttle wide open a few times to blow out any loose sludge, and that should cure your stall.
