I haven't done one on a 96 before, but have on a 2000, while they are different body styles i assume they are very similar. On the 2000 it required removing the entire dashboard, center console and steering column. Evacuating the A/C system and draining the coolant. And finally removing and disassembling the HVAC box. While your in there take a good look at the heater core and Evaporator as they are somewhat common leak points in their corresponding systems. Won't want to put it all back together to find out a few months down the road that the evaporator is leaking.

How do i fix the heater in my 2001 jeep grand cherokee

If the heater hoses are hot, the problem may be a faulty blend door under the dash. The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and the vents.

Heater blower is working but only blows cold air 2001 Grand Cherokee Jeep Limited 3.1d

Either your heater core is plugged up or your line to the core is restricted. Do a complete reverse rad flush with a radiator cleaning solution and try it. If that doesn't work you'll need a new heater core.

My 2000 Grand cherokee only blows warm air from defrost or any vent, 105 to 110 on a 32 degree morning with high fan, about 10 degrees warmer on low fan. It gets warmer when it warms up outside.Engine...

This is a common problem with WJ Grand Cherokees, it's called a "Blend Door".

In the heating and cooling system you have doors that open and close to give you warm and cold air and a mix of both.

What you have is an arm that pulls a door with peg on top, the peg tends to snap off. As you said your dealer replaced the blend door or doors I would take it back as is has blend door all over it.

Yahoo and youtube "jeep grand cherokee blend door repair"

I had a 02 limited blend doors issues (note the issueS) and was lucky to have it still covered.

I do hope this helped.

1995 Xj cherokee 4.00L airconditioning comes on with heater fan

It sounds like you blend door is broken. It is about an 8 hour job to tear the dash apart and replace the actuators that control blending of hot and cold air under your dash.

No hot air control

Probably broken blend doors if everything else is working, but its just blowing cold air. Do a google search for "Jeep Blend Doors" or "Heater treater" for more info.

01 jeep grand cherokee heater works on driver side blows cold on passenger side

You have 2 posibilities.there are 2 motors on the heater box that run the blend doors for each side. That side motor may be bad or worst case the blend door arm that connects to the motor is broken. If it is broken the whole dash has to be removed so the heater box can be taken out to replace the blend doors.Big job,do a heater core while your there if you fix it so you dont have to do it again.
