Your "boot" is your luggage compartment or trunk. if it is closed and is still regsitering that it is open then the mechanism needs to be replaced. the switch is in the trunk latch assembly. cheers

Have the lock checked on the boot. It might have got out of alignment and is not making a good circuit back to the alarm. Might be a loose wire.

I have a golf my 7, I can lock but leave a door open and no alarm goes off !

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but easy to try so here goes. I can press the remote button for locking and setting the alarm on my BM whilst the boot or a door (other than driver's) is till open. It appears to lock and nothing else happens - ie the alarm does not go off !!! However, when the boot or door is closed - even 3 - 4 minutes later, the indicators flash in the normal way and the car is locked and alarmed.
Maybe your car does the same. No harm in trying.

The sensor is located and probably built into the boot latch. The sensor is good because the light goes off if you close it slowly. the latch is just worn out with that particular part. Replace the latch. It is not hard to replace if you have a few hand tools.

Boot warning light keeps going on

That will happen if the switch mechanism is not operating when the boot is being closed. So have the switch replaced and that should be the end of your dramas.

I have a 55 plate VW Golf 2.0 Fsi - the alarm keeps going off by itself! We disconnected the battery last night (to get some sleep!) and it's started again today.... agh, HELP!

You probably have a faulty door,boot or bonnet lock.If you put the inside light switch to the setting for the light to come on when the doors are open,close all the doors and see if the light goes off.If your model golf has a display on the dash,it shuold tell you which door is open.It could also be a faulty interior sensor or a faulty alarm horn.A diagnostic machine will be able to tell you which was the last alarm activation.

Locate the fuse and or pwer supply, must be direct of the battery, disconnect either.You said the alarm is replaced in the boot, than the power wire to the alarm is located their.Disconnect it, tape off the end and stow.

Boot sensor says its open when its not

there is a small switch that closes when the trunk (boot) is closed, replace it.

this sounds like a faulty 'boot' switch. Many of the older models had issues with picky switches

ok, if the sensor for doors is inside door latch, just sparay some lubricant like wd-40 or something similar to the door latches and keep opening and closing doors until problem fixed
