Knock sensor in 2002 xterra se/sc

I was just told by a mechanic that the knock sensor is kicked on my 2002 xterra se/sc. He said the spark is fine and it is getting fuel but it won't start. Anyone have any thoughts.

Thanks for your help, any other options? I'm switching mechanics because the guy said he didn't quite have the right tools to further diagnose the problem, and if you can believe this, he said he wouldn't want me to spend $800 only to have the problem come back.

Failure to start and having a defective knock sensor are 2 different issues, as the previous solution/comment indicated.

Ok if it is getting spark at spark plugs that rules out ignition, let go to fuel, needs to check fuel pressure and also injector pulsation, if no pulsation fuel will not get into cylinder's, also a knock sensor will not keep an engine from starting, it controls ignition timing once engine is running.

Is there a way to by pass a knock sensor

Dear Anonymous,

I also have a 02 Xterra. I had a problem with my knock sensor also. there is no way to bypass the knock sensor, it is used by the engine when there is a knock to tell the ECM to advance or retard the distributor in order to stabilize the running of the engine. I have been told by my cousin who is a 20 year veteran Nisan Tech The knock sensor in itself does not need to be replaced unless you\'re doing a major job in which you have to remove the intake manifold because it sits on top of the engine block under the intake manifold. However, I am very strict when it comes to my truck, so I changed it. It is really up to you right now whether you want to replace it or not. If you take it to the dealer it\'s going to be very expensive! Let me know why you are looking to replace the knock sensor, you may be looking at the wrong thing.

My 2002 nissan xterra keeps dying at low idle, I had auto zone trouble shoot this and they said it was my knock sensor. Could this part fix my issue?

it is absolutely not the knock sensor so dont waste time and money on it.your stalling condition is due to something else.

I have a 2003 xterra SE Supercharged, I was throwing a P0328 knock sensor high input. so I replaced the knock sensor, and while I was at it. the timing belt. after getting everything put back together it...

Check-- the knock sensor should be replaced if it is setting a code. Second, the misfire on number 2 hole could be a defective injector. There is a known problem for the 2002 and 2003 models. Pull the plug from #2 hole and compare it to another plug. If #2 is black and the others are not you have a leaking injector. Also, perform an ohms check on all the injectors and I bet #2 will be less than the rest. make sure you use a quality sensor, Lee Davidian

Where is the knock sensor for the 04 nissan xterra located?

Your knock sensor is located undernesth the air intake manifold on top of the engine block. This goes for 2000-2004 xterra V6 3.3L models.

Nissan xterra knock sensor

It's the valley of the engine underneath the intake manifold. It's about an $800 job because the top of the engine has to come off. However, unless you have a supercharged xterra it shouldn't effect performance. Also, the knock sensor will not trip the check engine light, as it does not indicate a primary problem, so if your light is on you should have another code that should be fixed first.
