You likely tripped the Fuel Shut-Off Inertia Switch.
The inertia switch is located behind the trim on the right-hand
side of the vehicle, forward of the front door post, below the
fascia. Pull open the small panel in the trim to reset the switch.
Resetting the switch
CAUTION !!!:
To avoid the possibility of fire or personal injury, do not
reset the inertia switch if you see or smell fuel.
If no fuel leak is apparent, reset the inertia switch as follows:
Press the button!
If the switch was activated by the accident, you should feel it "click" when you reset it by pushing it.
This switch only trips off in a 3G or greater crash. The inertia/fuel pump cutoff switch is
located on the passenger side front on the inside. Open the door and get down
and look to your Right. it will be to the right of where the passenger would put
his/her feet. There's a plastic piece of trim that will look like it has a little
plastic piece much like where the tow hooks are. Remove that piece of plastic
and push the switch in.
check if the input side of the fuel pump has a restriction . a perished rubber hose can be a problem , the pump should be able reach a pressure 35 psi + and a flow of a quart every 30 seconds at this pressure.
DTC P1642 is for a loss in CAN communication. You will need to read the codes from the other modules to see which one is the culprit. From your description is does sound like the CAN network went down. It may be a problem with the inertia switch. It may have partially tripped causing this problem.
See your owner manual for the location of your inertia fuel cutoff switch. It cuts off power to the fuel pump in an accident.
CAN is the communication network where all teh computers in your car talk to one another. There appears to be a problem intermittently here.
The sender units go bad and stick on a 1/4 of a tank when you are actually out of gas, if not then it is going to be the fuel pump inside the tank of the relay.
Also makesure the fuel inertia shuf off switch hasn't been tripped.
