Low oil presure on gmc 5.3 manual gauge shows 0 psi at idle 20 psi driveing

no the motor sounds fine has 225,000 miles on it I changed to a heavery oil and added two bottles of motor honey with no impovement

Oh my!! I'm guessing the "oil pressure relief valve" is stuck open. Does the motor sound OK no knocking or ticking? The "oil pressure relief valve" is built into the oil pump.

you probably have your finger on the problem. have oil pressure test .when engine hot minimum 12psi.and change the thermostat.Don't cost much

Oil pump at idle is good when car is warming up, but after it get real warm after 20 miles of driving the idle oil presure is low about 15 lbs

This is normal. On your car, on a cold start the pressure will be around 75 PSI. After the engine warms an oil pressure of 15-20 PSI at idle is just what it should be. The oil pressure gauge should escalate when accelerating up a bit to. If your old school like me 15 PSI mean danger but tat Caddy is just fine.

Wild guess of 40 to 60 psi at highest, and more like 10 at idle.

Why is my 94 gmc c1500 low oil pressure.

You may have a bad oil sending unit this is located under the hood near the oil filter two wires are connected to it. i would change this and see if your problem persists, if so you could have an oil pump you wont hear anything until its too late. 20 psi is all you need to keep it alive. good luck

Low oil pressure

If the engine is not making any noise.It is probably the oil sending unit that is defective.If you want to be sure you will have to install a pressure gauge and check the pressure when the vehicle is at normal operating temperature.If it is above 10 psi then replace the sending unit.It is located on the back of the motor on the block by the left cylinder head.You might need a special socket for it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Oil pressure gauge goes up when car started, but then down to 0

u Have a problem with the oil sending unit. The sensor is located beack right side of the engine block. Take out the switch and make sure u have good oil PSI. Should be 6 psi at idle and around 50 at 4000 RPM. If the presure is ok replace the switch they are very cheap about 20 bucks. Please rate.

20 is minimum pressure I accept in any engine. Have pressure tested with an external mechanical gauge to verify if what you see on the dash is valid. You may have a sending unit that has failed or, a more serious internal engine problem. Have it checked sooner rather than later. If any tapping noise from engine do not drive it.
