Service engine light came on so I took to dealer. After scan, was told that the service code that came up was the first one they received. Was told Nissan has to replace both oxygen sensors and redo flashing? will cost $500. Is this a new problem that will be recalled or am I just "lucky"?

The message to connect service tool is to let you know that a dealers or repair facilities scan tool/computer needs to be plugged in/connected to your vehicle to read out what fault codes are set.

Service engine soon or check engine light? Engine light needs scanned for codes. Service engine soon is for oil changes and such. To get rid of service lights, turn the key on, press the gas pedal three times within five seconds. The light will flash. turn the key off. it's reset. At least check or change the oil and filter though.
I don't know who told you that , a semi- clogged catalytic will cause a low power issue an maybe a couple of DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes P0420 - P0430 ,Has nothing to do with the alarm system ! Do you mean Service vehicle soon or SERVICE ENGINE SOON ?
SERVICE VEHICLE SOON
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator in the message center when the PCM or the BCM detects certain non-emissions related malfunctions. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM or from the BCM requesting illumination. What problem are you having with alarm system ? If you have a starting issue it's the Anti-Theft system not alarm system . The alarm would go off if you vehicle was broke into . I don't know what shop you took it to but did you try a dealer ?
Stop at an autozone, napa, etc parts store and have them scan for codes to point you in the right direction. They will scan it for free, and advise of most common reason and part required to fix it. If not sure after scan, get back to me/us for advice and post the codes they told you were present.
had the same trouble with my '10 impala it turned out to be defective electronic accelerator pedal it is actually a recall for this vehicle and should be a free repair at your dealer.
I would take the cavalier bakc to the GM garage where it was serviced to determine what is currently making the engine light going on. If it is the same cause, the service they performed should be under warranty.
If it is something else, then they will have to work on it more to get the engine light to go off permanently.
You can have the code(s) scanned for free at Advance Auto Parts or Autozone if you have either or both in your area.
Good luck on the repair of your check engine light problem.
The service engine soon light means that you car's
computer has recognized something amiss and has recorded a 'code' in
it's memory. Any auto repair shop would be able to plug into your car's
computer, retrieve the code and tell you what it says. For a modest fee.
Not a good idea to ignore this only can be reset with ob2 scan tool parts store will pull code for free if you ask
A few things to try...if you are in a self serve state, When filling the tank, insert the nozzle the least that you can, use the slowest dispensing speed possible. As far as the canister, it can become faulty from "topping" the tank off. Fuel gets in the canister. Service engine light is on probably because of the canister fault. But to make sure, have your local auto parts superstore scan for the fault codes...usually free of charge. Hope this was helpful.
The best thing to do is go to Auto Zone and get your Hyundai scanned for a DTC code. That would tell us which O2 sensor has gone bad. You have three O2 sensors and one of them has gone bad, the O2 sensor sends signals to the ecm to control the air fuel mixture so it will not run to rich or to lean which is causing you to fail the state inspection. Good luck and keep me posted on what the DTC codes are, be glad to help.
