My Honda CRV-2000 with 5-speed manual transmission and Real Time 4WD does not want to shift into gear. I have a very strong feeling that the problem is that the clutch system is not being activated, because before the car decided to quit shifting altogether, when it shifted, the shifts were perfectly smooth. At the moment, the system is behaving exactly the way it would if you tried to shift gears without using the clutch. There are no funny noises when depressing the clutch pedal, and the clutch does not slip. I discovered that the clutch fluid was low, but filling the reservoir made no difference. What could be wrong and what is the next step?
The clutch fluid being low means that there is a leak in the hydraulic system and that is why you cannot get the vehicle in gear. even if you refilled the resivour you still need to fix where the leak is coming from then manually bleed out any air in the system. air is compressable and liquid is not. if there is air in the system you are only compessing the air when you push the clutch down and it is not pushing the clutch. check the clutch master cylinder for leaks- its under the clutch fluid. also check the slave cylinder is bolted the the transmission.
