Recently (when the weather started to get colder) when I backup in my driveway first thing in the morning and hit the brakes my back brakes make a grinding noise. It only ever does this when I back up first thing in the morning. It doesn't happen when driving forward and it doesn't happen after I have been driving for a mile and then put it in reverse and brake. Also it doesn't happen every morning, and I don't know if this is just a coincidence but it seems that on mornings when it is warmer it doesn't happen or the noise isn't as loud. What is the problem?
Does have rear drums or Disk brakes?
Some brake pads have silver lining, some have ceramic pads and some are metalic or semi metalic. Those semi metalic and metalic they have tendency to colect rust in cloudy or wet days and when vehicle is paked overnight they will rust littlebit and when you are trying to go in reverse and have your foot on brake pedal that rust will make conection with disc and will make a squeaky or ginding noise. It will go away durring the prolonged drive. You may have some of these pads on your wehicle that contains semi metalic or metalic pads.Nothing to worry it just a nuissance.
