My 99 Eddie Bauer Expedition blows cold air when

My '99 Eddie Bauer Expedition blows cold air when the heat is on and hot air when the A/C is on in the front but the middle and rear vents appear to be working just fine. I've been told that a "mixer door" may be broken or the stepping motor is bad. Where are these located on an Eddie Bauer model and how do I test for these problems? The only information I've been able to find says that the stepper motor is white and that the mixer door is located down under the center of the console but I cannot find anything that even remotely resembles these parts with all of the covers and shrouds under the dash.

The heater is a long plastic box and the mixer door is inside of the box. The stepping motor controls the door.

SOURCE: a/c problem

You either have a bad control, or motor running the air direction door in the front HVAC unit, or a door that is stuck.

The front and rear units are totally separate.

The door directs where the air, cold or hot, should come out, whether it is panel vents, floor, defrost, or any combination of those.

This door and motor are located inside the heater box which usually requires a lot of the vehicle dash assembly to be taken apart to get to these parts.

SOURCE: diagram bypass heater cord on 2001 ford expedition eddie bauer

the heater bypass is quite simple, if you look at the firewall you will see two medium sized coolant lines, remove them from the firewall and link them together using a proper sized tube, you can purchase a kit at a parts store quite cheaply

I have a 99 ford expedition eddie bauer. The heater works great sometimes and other times blows cold. If you turn it off and wait a few seconds and start it again it will work. Truck never over heats or...

You probably have air in the cooling system. These vehicles are sort of hard to bleed it out. I would recommend taking it to a dealership. Or you could take the rad cap off and run it but you will need a large funnel, one that is tight when going into the fill hole on the rad. Warm engine up, the fluid will rise a lot and this is normal. Once the engine is at operating temperature and the thermostat has opened up (grab upper rad hose it will be hot) rev it to 2500 rpm for about 10 seconds then release the gas pedal. This will help get the air out you will see bubbles in the funnel. Do that a few times (4 or 5) then leave it idle for a bit, put the hot air on through the vents it should stay hot if it is then you can put the rad cap back on if it doesn't stay hot you still have air in the system. I do it somewhat like this except I built a special rad cap specifically for the explorers.

I have a 1998 eddie bauer expedition and i cant get any heat to come out of my vents...i have installed a new heater core and a new thermostat and there is coolant in there and the blend door has been...

OK, if the heater core is getting hot, and you put a new thermostat in, then it seems to me that the blend door is not at the right angle in order to allow heat to blowout of the vents.

How was the blend door checked, I would ask?

Front A/C won't blow, rear works fine. 2002 Expedition

Check the fuses for the blower motor and check power to the front switch to the blower.

'99 eddie bauer, cold air in the rear hot air in

you may just be low on freon. The rear will often work ok when low, but the front won't

The same compressor serves both front and rear systems. Check that first.

ALso, check to see if your front blend door rotates when you raise & lower the temperature.
