First check fuses, then check your brake light switch, with a test light to ground check orange wire is light on if it isn't check your fuse. if it is ,touch your white wire and press brake pedal if light isn't on replace brake switch. if light comes on then go to the connector coming from your steering column that is wide and skinny it should have about 12 wires coming from it. this is your turn signal switch wires. again touch the test light to the white wire going into the column and press brake does light come on, if not check for broken wire from brake switch to turn signal connector. if light comes on touch test light to dark green wire and press brake pedal if light comes on then check the yellow wire from that same connector and press brake if both lights come on then trace your wires back to the brake lights and check for broken wires, blown bulbs or bad ground. if none or either one dosen't come on then replace your turn signal switch, because your brake lights go thru this switch. happy hunting.
You may have to change the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal stop by your local GM dealership in the parts department and they be able to print you off pictures and diagrams but check on the part at your local part store because it maybe cheaper wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.
SOURCE: brake lights don't work. Bulbs, fuses and
Filaments on actual bulbs might be burned out, pull the socket out from the back of the tailights and do a visual check on the bulbs, replace if needed...
