Why does my car rev up but won't move? I put it into gear without pressing the accelerator. As any normal car should do, it should coast a bit. Mine just revs up and sits there. I hit the accelerator and the car just revs up more and still doesn't move. This happened after a clicking noise had developed awhile back when I accelerated, or when I turned right. Occasionally when turning left to. Also 5 minutes before this major problem happened, my steering would **** left or right. My wheels didn't turn, just my steering wheel.
This is what I had been thinking since the noise started. I had someone look at it and actually drive it and they said it wasn't anything to worry about. Guess my first notion was right. They also tried saying it might have been the steering wheel bearings, but since my wheel wasn't shaking I discarded that notion. It would appear that your CV joints are worn out completely, and you are going to have to replace them, or the whole half-shaft. When you hear those funny noises, that is your car talking to you... the only way it can, and you have to fix those noises ASAP.
Better go get yourself a repair manual, if you don't know what you're doing. Most parts stores carry them. When you get it apart, it may be a good idea to get some one look at it to make sure you don't waste a bunch of money on the wrong thing. Sounds like a blown differential gearset (inside the transaxle.) I'd have it checked out by a reputable shop. Likely you need the unit rebuilt. It could be something less catastrophic but from what you said, I don't think so.

Clutch plate and pressure plate seem to be too weak to pull the car. Or one of the CV joints is detached from the gear box. To test the clutch plate, park the car on flat surface. Pull the hand brake up, start the car, depress the foot brake pedal, depress the clutch pedal, put the car in 1st gear, press the gas pedal and leave the clutch pedal at once, while keeping the brake pedal depressed.
Follow one of the two following statements:
1. Engine does not shut down and remain start. (Clutch plate, pressure plate and clutch bearing defective - Replace all as a set)
2. Engine shuts down. (Clutch system is OK and does not require any repair).
If the throttle cable is not attached properly to the throttle body or you have a bad motor mount, the throttle cable may be pulling the throttle open as you shift into gear. Open the hood, find the throttle cable on the throttle body. Inspect how it is connected and also how the cable is fastened in the engine comoartnent. Next, watch what happens as someone else starts the truck and puts it into gear. If the engine shifts significantly, check for broken motor mounts. If the throttle cable is misbehaving, correct the installation.
just about all cars with a computer have a rev limiter so you don't over rev it spinning a engine without a load is more harmful then with one this is normal
my gmc jimmy has that problem in the winter i have to floor it to just move so it tackes a minute to actually move and once im in second gear its fine so just try that
It sounds like either the clutch plate or pressure plate. Can you move the car in gear without too much trouble? Some resistance, but can be done! Then you will need to replace the clutch and pressure plates.
