Easy job on those vehicles. Usually need a wrench that fits over the belt tensioner, and you raise or lower it, taking tension off the belt. then just slip it off the nearest pulley-often the alternator pulley. Now you can let go of the tensioner and remove belt. Notice how it is fit. There should be a diagram on a sticker of how the belt fits on.
After you get your diagram at this website go over to auto zone and borrow the serpentine belt tool kit and it's very easy to change the belt. Serpentine belt Serpentine Belt Diagrams

If it is still on all the pulleys you will have to find a tensioner pulley and loosen it. Then it should slip right off. I found that you may have to take both belts off depending on which belt you are trying to take off. To replace it-there is a diagram in the owners manual that shows the correct route/positioning!!!
The 96 Riviera has a motor mount that interferes with the removal and replacement of the serpentine belt. The motor mount must be loosened and the engine need to be lifted slightly to accomplish the replacement. Not good engineering on this model year.
