1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Heater core leaking, chk engi light on.

1993 Grand Jeep Cherokee. Heater core is leaking and the steam causes the inside of the windshield to fog. Turned on the defroster with the fan on high. Immediately the whole windshield fogged, so turned off the defroster. About a min later, the jeep started cutting out and was losing speed but then would be fine. Went on for about 10 miles then the check engine light came on. Why? Was not overheating, oil was full, had plenty of water. The jeep never completely died. Recently passed smog inspection. New catalytic converter. Check engine light stayed on. Why? The jeep backfired once, maybe twice.

It sounds like coolant was also spraying the engine or something, but you need to have the codes read to know exactly whats going on.

Just because you stopped the window from fogging it doesn't mean you have fixed the problem. The core is still leaking and causing other problems, you must change the core first then see which problems remain.

My 2003 jeep grand cherokee laredo has a problem with my coolant reservoir drains quickly and i also have condensation on inside of window. when i turn on the heater i see dust or steam come from...

Your water heater core is beginning to leak. Eventually, you will find an antifreeze puddle on the passenger side floor which can eventually lead to the rupture of the heater core and a large amount of antifreeze in gaseous form within the cars interior.

It is time for a new heater core. Should you want to go the cheapest route, you can purchase a bottle of copper plugging agent. Ask your local car part guru what he has to plug a leak in the heater core.

Be forewarned: should you go this cheap route, you risk clogging your heater core for good and you will no longer have heat until you replace the heater core.

Windshield fogs up and defroster wont clear it.

You probably have a leak in the heater core which is creating steam in the defrost system. So the heater core most likely needs to be replaced.

How to change a heater core in a 93 jeep grand cherokee

When I turn my heater on, after my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee has warmed up, there is a dusty, watery smell for a few minutes, then it goes away. Also, it doesn't put out as much heat as I think it should. I don't think the heater core has a leak, because I always seem to have the same amount of coolant in the radiator and the heater core is not leaking on the inside of the truck.
