If the car move correctly in all other gears you have a bad transmission if the shifter is loose with a column shift replace the column if the shifter is not loose you have to adjust the linkage at the transmission

Have a problem with 1993 chevy silverado. have to put shifter into 2nd to take off then when moving put in drive and does fine until having to takeoff again. any suggestions?

Could be a shift solenoid or several other problems. You are over-riding the valve body and solenoids when you manually shift the trans.

1992 camry 3.0 is sluggish on takeoff and does not seem to go into overdrive.i think i'm missing low and o/d.it has low when selctor is in low but not in the drive position.help?

Almost certainly your No 1 shift solenoid has failed. It is fitted as a pair with the No 2 solenoid, and to replace them the trans pan has to be removed. You may as well replace the internal filter in the trans at the same time.

The O/D Off light keeps flashing while driving...after 1/2 hr drive...also slow take off at times.

The flashing light indicates an electrical malfunction within the transmission circuit. That along with the slow takeoff would suggest that the problem is a faulty shift solenoid, or damaged wiring harness connected to it. I had the same problem with mine, and it was the Number 2 Solenoid in the transmission. It can be accessed by draining the transmission and removing the lower cover. If the wiring is fractured internally but not completely severed (e.g. due to long term heat exposure and flexion) the problem would only occur sporadically. A temprorary workaround to the slow takeoff is to manually put it in 2nd gear and then back to Drive as you accelerate, that worked for me at least.

Yes i have a 96 cadillac deville i just bought i cant feel it shifting. It goes right into gear and goes down the road but dont feel it shifting.

Try manually shifting it and see if you can feel it shifting. You should be able to.Then just drive it in drive light normal and see if you can feel it.Usually you will get a check engine light or have the transmission codes checked if you do feel it.Sometimes these transmissions are very smooth.Hope this helps.

Using the select shift in my 2009 sonata

The purpose of shift tronic is to give the driver the option of driving like a manual where you command the shift, or auto for easy driving (little effort). It is not specifically used just to down shift or upshift. When you are in 5th gear, thats it, it will do in it normal mode or sport shift.
