I don't smoke, but I need to use the cigarette ligther for power

I don't smoke, but I need to use the cigarette lighter as a power source for other use in my 96 ford explorer. It used to work, but it stopped working. I bought my SUV from an owner and don't have the owner's mannual. What might be the cause?

Check the # 17 fuse. It should be a 15 amp.

Fuse panel location cigarette lighter fuse


in fuse panel it will be fuse number 2. if fuse is good its your cigarette ligther bad . this has power on it always.

it is fuse # 1 in the fuse box under the dash on the drivers side it is a blue 15 amp fuse

did you use a test light this would be the primary source for an accessory not to work unless the wires to the connector on the back side of the lighter itself has come undone or it may very well be the ground to it you need to visually inspect it a mirror may be of assistance to have a look if you cannot bend under neath the dash maby you can remove the ashtray to better view it

Cigarette lighter does not work


To test if the cig lighter works buy a 12volt test light at radio shack and test the center of the cig lighter to see if you get power there.if you don't then there is a blown fuse somewhere check the fuses in the engine compartment?

LIGHTER ON 2005 GMC TRUCK DON'T WORK


The usual cause is that the lighter is shorted, replace the fixture and the problem will go away.
