I HAVE HAD AN AUDI A3 1997 NOW FOR A YEAR, HAD SOME SMOKING PROBLEMS BUT BEEN RECTIFIED BY ENGINE REFURB, BUT KEEP HAVING AN ANNOYING IDLE FROM 800RPM STARTING POINT, IT IDLES IN NEUTRAL FROM 600RPM TO 1200 RPM, REALLY LUMPY AT TIMES TOO, AS THOUGH THERE IS A SENSOR AWAY OR AIR BEING INTAKEN, I GET CHEAP PARTS FROM A FRIEND AND I HAVE REPLACED THE M.A.F, FULL THROTTLE BODY, COILPACK AND LEADS, COOLANT TEMP SENSOR, AIR FILTER, FLEL FILTER, ETC. IT ACTUALLY WENT AWAY BUT HAS NOW RE-STARTED!!! DO I NEED PARTS RE-PROGRAMMED OR REMAPPED OR WHATEVER? PLEASE HELP, AFFECTING FUEL,POWER AND MY SANITY!!!

Clean the throttle body and reset the idle. Also check the O2 sensor. I am having the same problem with my 01 tt

you need ot do a tune up, these problems are ussually associated with bad wires and coil packs...

ON ALL A4 MODELS AND I THINK THE A3 , THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS LOCATED AT THE REAR OF THE CYLINDER HEAD,WHILST ON SOME ENGINES, A SECOND SENSOR IS FITTED TO THE RADIATOR OUTLET PIPE...HOPE I WAS OF SOME HELP TO YOU....
