I assume that this means "hood won't open" not "hood won open". I have a 2002 audi A4 with the 3.0. The battery is dead and I cannot access the battery because the hood release will not work. There is tension on the cable when it is pulled but no release. I have tried pushing down on the hood while pulling the lever and I have tried pulling on the hood while pulling on the lever. Neither has worked. Is there an emergency release and how is it accessed?

Try getting another person to push down above the bonnet latch as you pull the lever.They may have to push it down a few times,A sudden quick push may do it.Hope this helps

If your cable is broken, not easy, so I assume you are pulling release and it is not opening hood, which is typical reason for not being able to open hood. You will need to identify where break is first, and this is the tough part, sometimes it is simply a stretched cable which happens before it snaps completely. You may have to trace cable to hood latch, you may have to cut cable to access inside wire and then use vise grips to release and then replace whole cable. FREE-PPV.com
You need to access the hood release at the release mechanism in the centre of the bonet. With any luck with that model hopfully you can access it with a long screwdriver through the grill or reaching up from under the car behind the bumper.
You will have to go to the fuse panel and "jump" the hood open. There is a little nub that pulls out with a copper band. You will need to hook the positive side of the jumper cables to the nub and the negative to something metal. The hood will immediately open. Hope this helps someone else.
