Question about 2001 Saturn S-Series

Sputters at cruising speeds, but not when floored

2001 Saturn SL1 with 360,000 miles - It sputters at cruising speeds, but as soon as you floor it, it stops sputtering. Then you get back up to speed and let off the gas to stay at that speed, it starts to sputter again. I've changed the plugs, wires and O2 sensor.

About once a month I put a fuel injector cleaner in the fuel tank. I've also just replaced the fuel filter. When I floor it, there's no hesitation in the delivery of fuel. It just happens when I get up to a cruising speed and back off the gas to maintain that speed. That's when the sputtering happens.

Is your check engine light on ? Should be on dash a yellow light that says (check engine soon) If it is go to your local Auro Zone and they will run a code scanner and give you a detailed readout on paper as to what the codes say is the problem,,,,,,,,,,,,,Im thinking your oxy sensors are bad, But you go check it out.

Hi,
Could be ignition coils failing or injectors. Don't know the mileage on your car, but could be worn out engine too. Change your oil often?

My '87 samurai sputters badly when i give it throttle.

Try changing the fuel filter. If it is running ok at lower speeds around 50kmh/30mph I would say fuel supply is the problem.
Hope this helps.
