2005 FORD F150 S-Cab Lariat Power Windows not working.

2005 FORD F150 S-Cab Lariat Power Windows will not work. Have Checked the Fuse/Relay~good. All windows (incl. sunroof, back slider, 2 Front L/R, 2 back L/R) are on same circuit. Sunroof and back slider work. Other 4 do not. When pushing on the window down/up buttons it dims the lights and the small light on the rear window defroster lights up on the heater control panel. I have looked under the dash and behind the 2 kick panels for grounding wire problems, found none. Checked the switch and it appears to be OK, but cannot tell for sure unless I take it in and spend $100 for diagnosis or buy a new switch that I have to keep due to Fords no return policy on Electrical parts. Any suggestions? Any body else have this issue? I have seen lots of problems posted regarding the window regulators and this doesn't appear to have anything to do with that. Luckily all windows are up right now. Any help would be great!

I am having the exact same issue. I replaced my master switch because you would have to hold the driver's window switch and wait for it to kick in. Worked 4.0 for about a week and suddenly no windows work. The lights on the switches work, but when you push on any switch in the truck the window doesn't move, but the lights dim and the heated mirror light illuminates. Both the sunroof and the rear sliding glass both work.

Did you ever find a solution for this???

How did you fix this problem?

  • Anonymous Jan 12, 2011

There is another thread, I am not sure where right now, that explains step by step how to do this, but in my case it was a busted ground wire. The ground wire had broken inside the boot between the door and the frame. To test it I pulled out the master switch and ran another ground to it and everything worked fine so I just followed the ground until I found the break. Took me about 3 hours to find it and repair it once I knew what it was. I will look for the thread I am talking about when I get a chance, but if you can see where I have posted before you will find it.

Sorry the thread I was referring to is on a F-150 forum I will have to check for it when I have some time this afternoon.

    Thanks for your help
I took the wire harness apart tonight after work and found a broken black ground wire cut in half I repaired the wire and everything works fine I wonder how the wire got severed? was a clean cut. and i wonder about the other 30 wires if they will be cut some day ? .
It was a big job repairing the wire and i had to take the door off the truck just to plug the harness back in .

    Thanks again for your help!!!

Sounds like a problem with the master power window switch ( all the windows run through the driver's side windows ).
The dim sounds like the motors are jammed in place ( load on system ), but all 4 windows with the same problem seems a bit fishy to me.

Remove the driver's side window switch and test it.

Was this the fix and where doid this wire come off of?

  • Anonymous Jan 26, 2012

This was very helpful to me, fixed it right up. Not a big job at all. Took the kick panel off next to the parking brake and unscrewed the ground wire that has 2 grounds coming together one of these is the ground wire that is cut. I made up a jumpre with a crimp on connector and crimped it onto the end that goes to the truck body. I then pulled it in to the truck a ways and then fed it back through the boot and used another crimp connector on the other end once I had it done I placed the wire so the connectors were not in the boot replaced the ground screw and all was well after that. about a 30 minute job. Thanks for the advice.

Why do I have no auto night headlights, no electronic mirror adjustments and no auto locks. They all quit on my 3/96 4.6L single cab f150 lariat, why?

after all fuses and relays verified are working it sounds like you have keyless entry on the door panel with a keypad and in either case theres a driver door module inside the door panel this may have gone or the fuse for that has blown I'm ssuming that you have the owners manual with the diagrams if not ford owners .com register then download your manual then go to roadside emergencies and the fuse and power distribution box diagrams are there also this could be you headlight switch so if the fuses are all good then lookat the door module on the drivers side next to the speaker or the headlight switch do the windows work also check the master window switch this is because all components have some borrowed power from other wire circuits so look carefully at all of these even a corroded wire or contact can cause havoc on other systems clean al and a light dab or spray of wd40 will help you good luck Stephen

Should be a 30amp circuit breaker in the central power box.
You should find the details in your owners manual.

There are some relays located in the fuse box under the hood.( Drivers side, located directly in front of the power booster for the brakes. open the lid & you will find 2 rows of fuses & 5 relays) you will have to refer to the owners manual for the diagram for the electrical fuses & relays.

2001 F150 windows and radio stopped working at the same time. Checked fuses but they're all good. What gives?

I would start with the easiest thing. On your interior fuse panel there are relays on the left side of the panel. Pull out the bottom relay and swap it with the one above it. If the windows and radio work the get a new relay. This is the accessory delay relay. It is the relay that keeps the windows and radio powered after you turn the key off until you open the door to exit.
Hope this helps
